PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Convert your hinged door into a self-closing one with the Prime-Line KC17HD Safety Spring Door Closer. Installation is a breeze thanks to the closer and plastic slide plate being surface mounted. Use this spring door closer on doors up to 150 pounds. It can also be used on both left and right-handed doors. The door closers feature an adjustable closing force and speed. Constructed of diecast materials with a brown painted finish, this safety spring door closer can complement any style door. They are U.L. listed with a ½ hour fire rating and have a 1 inch wide base, 4-1/4 inch hole center spacing and 4-3/4 inch arm. These closers operate in a pushing-closed manner, rather than in a pulling-closed method, and they do not have a hold open feature. The closer arm of this safety spring closer has the ability to swing a full 180 degrees, but once it is mounted in place, the door’s distance of swing will be reduced to the point of where it makes contact with the bullet-shaped housing of the closer. Distance of travel: The closer arm of this safety spring closer has the ability to swing a full 180 degrees, but once it is mounted in place, the door’s distance of swing will be reduced to the point of where it makes contact with the bullet-shaped housing of the closer. For a rust and weather resistant closure, consider model numbers KC50HD (white) and KC57US (brown) which are suitable for outdoor/exterior use, designed for use with lightweight gates and screen doors. All fasteners and installation instructions are included with this item. Other colors/finishes include: black, white, chrome plated and satin chrome plated. Application of white lithium grease to internal compressing springs may be desired, but you should avoid using lubricants like WD-40 which breaks down lubricating grease.

Closes and locks door!!!

Purchased an inexpensive one earlier from Amazon. Not happy with installationor operation. Bought this one a few days later, what a difference!

works for most doors

Pro: The product will close lightweight doors. It is adjustable. The opener will handle doors that open approximately 120 degrees, not 180 degrees. Con: The tension is not linear. As long as the door is full opened it will shut the door, however if the door is just partially opened it will not latch. Since this is a pool door it was important that it fully latched every time the door is opened.

Sturdy, Well Made!

This product is extremely heavy duty and well-made. It was easy to install. Add a drop or two of Gun oil to make it completely quiet. Works correctly without any adjustment. Tip: keep the little metal bar that they don't really explain in the instructions. That's used after you mount the unit but before you insert the arm ... it is temporarily used to crank the cylinder open so you can attach the arm that actually pushes the door closed. I just left it in place it because it doesn't get in the way and it will probably be needed in the future. I would recommend you buy this product if you need something to close your door reliably and relatively quietly.

Not as light weight as I had hoped.

Using this on an RV door that interferes with opening the slideout. Want it to ensure it remains closed and out of the way. Problem is the first setting won't latch the door but the second setting slams it pretty hard.

Great but some limitations

Great product that really works well, but I bought it through Amazon Fulfillment and there were several small parts missing. None that I couldn't replace, so I didn't bother returning it but one of the screws and the small bar that is used to increase the tension were missing. Other than that, the door closer works much better than the one that I previously had (the type that fits on the hinge pin) If not for the missing parts would give it 5 stars I installed this on the back door of my house at my ranch. It is often quite windy there. I wanted something that would close the door but would allow me to close it without latching so my dog could get in. I found that one was not enough for my door. After tightening more and more, the spring finally gave out. I got a replacement spring but decided to install a second closer on the door. One is at the top and one at the bottom. That works better, but still, on a windy day, if I don't latch the door, the wind will keep it partially open. I've now ordered a third closer to put in the middle. All in all, I'm happy with the product, but buyers should be aware that there are situations where it might not prove adequate.

Great product

This is a 4 year review. One of the best products I’ve bought for my house. With 4 kids, it have my sanity back with them leaving the door open. I HAVE NOT HAD ONE SINGLE PROBLEM with this closer. This is the main door we use coming and going. Opens and closes an uncountable amount of times daily. I do lubricate it a few times a year when I do the door hinges. For what it’s worth, this is an exterior 8’ door. Just set the tension pretty good and no problems.

Just about perfect bedroom door closer

My room is down the hall from another family member. Sometimes she complains about my computer speakers being a little too loud. I run my business in the room. I want my privacy. Sometimes I walk in and out forgetting to close the door. It's a relatively light hollow core wood door. Thought about getting closer hinges. Reviews are not that good. Then found this closer. It's not big, chunky or expensive like a commercial or external door closer. Very simple, a spring that pushes the door closed. It was very easy to install. Some past complaints about noise in operation. The maker seems to have responded by heavily greasing the springs, something some users had to do.. The lowest setting closes the door without latching it. That is not bad, gentle and quiet. Holds it against the frame. The next position actually latches the door. Sounds like a gentle slam. Trying it, but I think I prefer the quieter close to avoid noise in the middle of the night.

Works great!

This thing is perfect! I'm a nut for having my door close behind me but to have it close completely I have to slam it, which I don't like. This device solved it. Closes the door perfectly everything. And if I'm coming back through with full hands I just stop it just before it latches so I can open it hands free. If I just let go of the door anywhere from about a quarter to fully open, it closes perfectly every time. My door is hollow core so it's fairly light but I don't have this closer set to anywhere near full force. It could definitely handle heavier doors. Maybe not quite the front door with all the weather stripping but two of these would certainly do the trick and still be a deal at that. Highly recommended!

My dog opens the door and this device closes it

I took it apart and added grease to spring as reviews said it squeezed after some use. I have never heard mine squeak and have had it install for about 6 months now. Works well.

As the title indicates, it works, easy to fit and adjust. Hope that the quality is good given it was pretty cheap.
