PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Rain Bird CPF075 In-Line Automatic Sprinkler Valve with Flow Control, 3/4" Threaded Female Inlet x Female Outlet. Rain Bird manufactures only the highest quality In-Line valves. This residential and light commercial grade valve replaces all In-Line irrigation valves installed below ground with 3/4" female threaded inlet and outlet. A top mounted, easy-turn flow control knob allows adjusting flow to the zone; optimizing sprinkler performance to avoid misting and provide the most uniform coverage. For use with any 24 volt AC irrigation timer/controller. Unique reverse-flow design helps prevent flooding in the event of internal diaphragm failure keeping the valve closed and saving water. Valve operates automatically or manually with manual bleed screw. Buna-N (nitrile rubber) diaphragm offers superior performance in harsh water environments. Features an energy-efficient, low power encapsulated solenoid with captured plunger. May be used with all types of watering devices including Rain Bird spray heads, rotors, and impacts. In-Line valves are installed below ground in a valve box downstream from the main line from a PVB or double-check valve. After installation and before startup, always flush the system of dirt and debris manually using the valve's external bleed screw. In-Line valves will not prevent back flow on their own; they require a back flow prevention device. Use In-Line valves in locations where the use of a pressure vacuum breaker (PVB) or a double-check valve is required by city codes to protect against back flow. Check local city codes to determine what type of valves are required. Also available (sold separately) in 1" model: CPF100. Rain Bird “The Intelligent Use of Water”. Product was fine but delivery lacking -
Product was fine but delivery would have taken 2 more steps to put it on the porch instead of leaving package out in the rain by the gate. Just poor effort on delivery person's part!

Reliable and repairable
I have been using these valves for about 20 years. They generally last 10 years or so with no issues. The internal parts do break eventually, then the valve starts dripping. I usually keep the old case (connected to the plumbing) and replace all of the internal parts. It is cheaper to buy a whole new valve than to buy the repair parts individually.

Replaces obsolete earlier version
I installed a 5 zone residential sprinkler system in 1997, and one of the original valves started to leak into the sprinkler zone. This replacement valve has the same center to center dimension on the female pipe connections, and was an easy fit to replace the leaker. Note that the working parts of this valve are larger diameter than the obsolete version, so, if your piping for your zones is a close fit for your older valves, you may have to "jockey" things around a bit to fit this one.

Decent Valves
The house I purchased a couple years ago had these installed (5 of them). I don't know how old they were, but pretty much all were leaking, all in different places. I took a couple of them apart and there didn't seem to be any way to fix the leaks coming from the flow control knob, which is where several leaked from. You can buy replacement diaphragms, but that would't have solved the problem. So they don't last forever and can't be easily repaired unless it's a diaphragm problem. That said, I ordered and installed all new ones. USE THREADED UNIONS ON ALL CONNECTIONS. I read that in a review somewhere and it's extremely important. It makes installation so much easier and will enable you to easily change out the valves if you need to (which you will eventually), as opposed to cutting and rebuilding the PVC pipe you're attaching it to. It will cost you a little more to buy all of those unions, but it's totally worth it. It seems like they should have designed the valves to be easier to get on and off (there should be a built-in way to screw the valve onto the pipes as opposed to having to screw the pipes into the valve- built in unions). I installed the new valves and they all seem to work as they should, no leaks. They all run from my control panel just fine. I dinged the star off for the durability and the design shortcoming that makes installation more difficult than it really should be unless you separately buy unions.

Compact and very effecient!
I have used irrigation valves for years, and never thought about an inline valves until this valve showed up. Setting up a manifold was very easy, and if aesthetics are important, these valves looks great. The only caution is that you need to buy a backflow device seperately, because these valves don't have one.

Very reliable
Replaced similar Orbit units which were frustratingly weak and needed some assistance to deliver full flow. Finally gave up with replacement in-kind and switched brands. Only difference is the RB in/out gap is about 3/4" wider than Orbit, so had to dig down and spread the water lines apart to accommodate. These are instant on and instant off. No long ramp up to full flow. Water flow and sprinkler range is slightly better too. Very relieved to now have full functionality for summer.

Great product!
Bought Orbit first since it was cheaper but man did I pay for it. The valve never shut properly in the orbit so I had a slow leak in the lawn. Eventually found out what happend and went with rainbird instead. Best decision for irrigation products!

Works well
I installed two of these to replace my orbit valves which continued to leak after they "shut off". The orbits leaked from the day I installed them. Both of the Rainbirds shut off after watering with no leaks.

Solidly built system
Works well but not abundantly clear that the valves MUST be higher than the highest sprinkler head on the zone, otherwise all the water in that zone backflows through the valve into your pit or wherever you mounted the valve.
