Renew™ is ideal for use in systems where phosphate released from all activated carbons poses a problem. Renew™ is also less aggressive than carbon, making it well suited for reefs and planted aquaria. It is also beneficial for use in soft water aquaria where the pH-raising property of many carbons is not an asset. Renew™ will remove organics and particulates in the sub-micron range; it will also help control ammonia, nitrates, and phosphates.

Doesn't absorb odors as good as carbon
While it does seem to do a fairly good job keeping the water clear, it does nothing to help absorb odors. I find that a good quality carbon does a better job at making the water crystal clear as well as absorbing odors. Since I started using this product, I have noticed a smell that just doesn't seem to go away, even with a fresh batch. I have never had this issue with quality carbon. As far as absorbing needed elements, I can't speak to that but I do dose elements in my tank and never had a problem.

Good
Peace of mind knowing that this doesn’t release phosphate.

Worth it...
I've started using this to replace that old standby, activated charcoal, in my freshwater tanks.. Seems to be much less likely to leech chemicals back into the water if you leave it in the filter a little too long. While it's not cheap, I find I can get about twice as much time out of this stuff than a similar amount of charcoal before needing replacement. (3-8 weeks vs. 1 - 4 weeks depending on fish population)

I love this chemical media
I love this chemical media. It's not as harsh as carbon because it leaves nutrients in the water for your plants to use but still cleans your water, and the result is really good water quality for your fish. This product also lasts very long, so is economical.

Good carbon alternative.
Very good alternative to carbon - no po4 leaching and removes less good stuff. Super price!

Yeah, whatever, it does what it's supposed to do
Cleans the fish water. What can I say.
