Great for the 6-Quart Bucket, Great for Mixing and Storing Dough

After trying an online recipe, I bought the bookThe New Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking , and became hooked on having freshly baked bread. At first, I made do with with bowls and containers I already had on hand, but having decided I was going to continue making bread, I bought this inexpensive food bucket lid for storing the dough along with the bucket,Rubbermaid Commercial Products FG572324CLR 6-Quart Round Storage Container . Together, they work great but currently, have to be ordered separately - the lid doesn't come with the bucket and vice versa.. The bucket and the lid are both sturdy. The lid fights nicely on the bucket, and the whole thing fits on one of the taller shelves in my refrigerator. I got the 6-qt bucket because I was afraid the 8-qt one wouldn't fit in my fridge. When I ordered them, the bucket arrived before the lid, and I used plastic wrap to cover the bucket. That will do in a pinch, but the lid works much better and is well worth the few dollars it costs. Another reviewer reported that this lid does not fit the 6-qt. bucket. It fit my 6-qt bucket just fine. The seal is quite tight, but part of it can be left unsealed while the dough is actively releasing gases. While I am sure this bucket has many uses other than for bread dough, in my house it is in constant use as a container for both mixing and storing dough.

Be careful when ordering

Didn't read small print. Photo is misleading. You only get the yellow lid. The container is a separate purchase. Waste of my time and money.

Doesn't quite fit

I don't like how these buckets and kids aren't sold together. These are the right size but won't quite snap into place no matter how hard I press around the rim of the bucket. Very frustrating, especially given how expensive it is once you buy both the bucket and lid separately.

Great no-knead bread bucket!

The lid fits the matching bucket, but loose enough to let the gases from rising bread escape without blowing the lid off. Together with the bucket component, this lid makes the perfect dough bucket for no-knead breads (see KingArthurFlour.com for great recipes). I am very fond of the lemon yellow color; it has no gold to it at all. The round shape of the bucket is perfect for mixing bread dough -- no corners do deal with like a squared design would have. I can't wait to get started making no-knead loaves The bucket is available here at Amazon too, but needs a few minutes at the sink with a marker -- fill to 1 quart and mark it; then repeat adding quarts until it is full. With these markings, it's much easier to tell when your dough has fully doubled. I have always been satisfied with Rubbermaid products, and there is certainly no exception here.

THIS FITS 6 QUART ALSO!!!

I needed a lid to fit a 6-quart container I bought at Sam's years ago. The only one I could find on Amazon was $13!! Crazy high price! Then I stumbled upon the fact that the 6 quart and 8 quart use the same lid. Eureka!! This one was a little more than $2. And it fits perfectly. Sometimes it's the little things in life that make us so happy :)

Very good quality

Although quite pricey I am satisfied. I wasn’t happy that the actual container cane without a lid and had to wait to use it and order the lid separately, but when all is done it is a good and sturdy product that isn’t readily available in stores. I’d have a lot more if they were a little cheaper for sure. Very high quality and many uses. I’ve proofed bread in them and brined chickens (not simultaneously, lol!) and have been very satisfied with results.

Great container but pricey

Not bad but there are better options out there as this is expensive and don't come with a lid so that another 12-16 dollars. I would not repurchase but works well to store apples in fridge or rise dough!

A lid is a lid is a lid. This lid goes with the 6/8 qt Rubbermaid commercial food storage container. Overall, the lid works as advertised. You can put it on the container. You can take it off the container. And if you're daring, you can even leave it partially on.

Just what I need for my food container-Fit perfect-My brown rice is well sealed. But don't like the idea of buying the lid separate from the container cost more that way. And that's why they (sellers) do this-Its all about the money can't use one without the other.
