So far so good

I bought this for being out in the sun for long periods of time, not because I actually want to wear this type of hat. Someone complained that the black liner under the brim makes it hotter under the hat. I have not experienced this, and I have worn this hat and a previous version without the brim liner for hours on days in the low 90s with 65% humidity. The chin strap is cheap and the wooden cord stopper has no spring, so it will loosen in a fairly short amount of time (this matters on windy days when your hat will be blown off your head, sometimes in very inconvenient moments). I replaced it with a plastic spring loaded cord stopper that you can buy at arts and crafts stores or right here on this website. It was a pain in the butt to get this soft fat string through the narrow hole though, but I got it through eventually by tying the two ends together with a narrow piece of nylon string and pulling the string through the hole, dragging the two straps through with it (it still took some effort, careful maneuvering and patience). The hat seems about as well constructed as you can reasonably expect a straw hat to get without it costing a lot more. These types of hats usually last me through two summers before I have to replace it, and I'm fine with that since I wear them five days a week from April until October. I work outside during peak UV sun hours and I hate wearing sunscreen and sweating it into my eyes. This hat helps me avoid that nonsense. Update: I wore this hat Monday through Friday, all through the summer of 2020, and I wore it again, Monday through Friday from the middle of March 2021 through the end of September. It's still holding up and going strong. I have complete confidence that this hat will also serve me well through the spring and summer of 2022 as well.

Light weight but fragile - they come big

It's a nice hat, better than other straw hats I've had. The underside of the brim is black, which will help with reflections. The brim is stiff enough so that it doesn't easily flap up in the wind. The openings in the crown help with good ventilation. The clasp that holds the chin straps in place is secure, and hasn't failed yet in holding the cords tight beneath the chin. On the negative, the "one-size" hat comes a bit big, at least on me. I have to put a handkerchief or two on top of my head to keep the had from sliding down to my eyebrows. Of course that makes me look silly, but who cares.

a ventilated sun hat works to keep the sun of and keep you as cool as possible

I have been using a hat just like this one for several years working in the yard. The open structure in the crown lets any little breeze waif thru the top cooling your head. The openness does not let that much sun come in. I do not have any hair, so I would notice sun burn and I spend every afternoon outside. I have found that a droopy 4" brim confuses the bugs. The brim will be at about ear level or below, it seems they have trouble getting up under the brim lip, some do get to your face, but not many. I spray the brim with deet. I had been looking for a replacement to my old hat and this is it.

Great hat at a very reasonable price!!

I’m leaving on a trip to Cabo in a week so I need good sun protection. The hat looks great and will definitely give me all the protection I need! Nice style and it fits good. I wear 7 1/8 baseball caps and this hat fit just a bit loose. I ordered the hat foam tape to put inside on the headband so it fits perfectly now. I probably didn’t need it but I hate when a hat is always flopping down so it won’t now. There was one slight defect in that a small 1 inch portion of the headband was unattached but rather than return it I just took 5 minutes to sew it in place and it’s perfect now. No big deal. I recommend this hat since for this price you can’t find anything close here. The brim is also wider on this one than most so best protection you can get IMHO.

Excellent purchase, I couldn't be happier

I waited until I'd worn this hat a few times to write a review. And I've got to admit I'm very pleasantly surprised. Being one of the cheaper options of this kind of hat on Amazon I wasn't sure what to expect. But I've gotta say it rocks! It's light, fits my head very well, has great ventilation and seems to be well made. The only thing I can think of that would be an issue for some people is the one size fits all restriction. Other than that it's perfect for me so thanks Amazon.

Can't beat the price but...

My Hat size is 7 1/2. I had to cut away the band they had sewn in and get a haircut. Slightly tight now but acceptable.

Good fit, great price

Great hat, straw is a little brittle/dry if you plan on being rough with it. It was a bit bent out of shape from shipping, but overall a great hat. I got it back to shape by putting it on a table and putting a few heavy books on the brim for 24hrs. AFter that it's right as rain
