The grade 8 steel hex nut has a zinc yellow-chromate plating and meets American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B18.2.2 specifications. It has six flat sides that a wrench can grip to turn from the side, enabling use when there is no space above the nut. Grade 8 steel, composed of quenched and tempered medium carbon alloy steel, is stronger than grade 5 steel and is often used in applications where strength is the primary consideration. The zinc yellow-chromate plating offers good corrosion resistance. Nuts are internally threaded fasteners that are used with bolts and threaded rods and studs to connect components. Several different nut styles fit a variety of application and installation requirements. Some styles, such as hex nuts, acorn nuts, flange nuts, and coupling nuts, must be tightened with a tool. Others, such as eye nuts, thumb nuts, and wing nuts, can be tightened by hand. Some nuts have a self-locking mechanism, such as a nylon patch or distorted threads, that makes them suitable for applications with a high amount of vibration.

Excellent Grade 8 Nuts
Fit perfect and look great!

Good quality but the yellow-chromate wore off of nuts after multiple uses.
These seem to be good-quality foreign made nuts - threads are well formed etc... I restore old British cars and one thing you always need are 5/16-24 nuts. One issue however that may or may not be a problem: I was using two of these and the usual method to remove a whole lotta studs from a Jag cylinder head - so alot of handling and tightening/loosening Well by the time I was done, the yellow color of the chromate was pretty much gone. They just look like normal, zinc plated nuts. I don't know if this is normal for yellow-chromate hardware because I'm usually not tightening and loosening it dozens of times. I've never noticed this happen with this kind of plating before but as I said, it was an unusual situation. Time will tell if the plating holds up well.

I like big nuts and I cannot lie
Five star because it's a big nut. Also, it didn't work for me. But that's my problem, not the nuts problem.

Fine
This is a giant hex nut. I bought it for a project and have not finished it yet, but I can tell you it is heavy, and good quality. The threads seem clean and properly formed, no defects.
