Jumpstart your study of mechanical physics by learning all about simple machines and how they're used to make complex tasks easier to do. Through 26 model-building exercises, you'll investigate all six classic simple machines — wheels and axles, levers, pulleys, inclined planes, screws, and wedges — as well as gears. and then move onto larger, more complex models to push the machines harder and see how they can work together. Also included is a specially designed spring scale so that you can measure how the machines change the direction and magnitude of forces, making work easier to do. With this durable, modular construction system, You can see how the same basic elements combine in different ways to form each machine. The models can be assembled and disassembled again and again; combine the pieces to create your own configurations, limited only by your imagination! In addition to the invaluable hands-on experience you'll get from model building, the 32-page, full-color manual also dives into examples of simple machines in action in everyday life. The seesaw at the playground, the wheelbarrow in your backyard, The flagpole in front of your school — all of these are examples of simple machines in the real world! So start building, investigating, and experimenting to discover how physics is all around us!

Fun and educational, but a slight draw back
Got this for my 10 year old to supplement his homeschool science simple machines unit. He is very interested in science and had no issues following the directions to build each machine. I love that the instructions include information about each simple machine and how it relates to work and mechanical advantage and included a “what’s happening” explanation for each machine. This isn’t just a toy build, they do a good job of actually describing what is happening with educational value. The downsides however are the pins and anchors. I thought they would go together with the ease of Lego technic pins, but these are much more difficult to insert and remove. Thankfully they include a tool to help remove them but they were much more difficult than I expected. By the time we hit experiment 11 one on the connecting rods had cracked because it takes so much force to insert and remove the pins for each build. I think design wise they could have done better. We use Legos to create huge sturdy builds so I’m not convinced the pins needed to be so tough to use and still be a sturdy machine. Overall, my son and I both enjoyed the kit and I would recommend it.

Very useful and fun
Pros: 1. The instructions are easy to read and understand. 2. The plastic pieces are very durable. 3. Each "simple machine" diagram explains the use and function of the machine. 4. Very educational and useful in a homeschool setting when studying Simple Machines, one at a time. Cons: 1. The pieces sort of "lock" together making disassembly a bit difficult, especially if you put the wrong pieces together. 2. You can only make one "machine" at a time. So, you need multiple sets if you want to have multiple machines constructed at the same time.

Good Product poor handling
Product looks great EXCEPT FOR THE LABEL ON THE FRONT OF THE PACKAGE BLOCKING EVERYTHING!

Very, very nice set for simple machine education.
My granddaughters were very excited about this kit. The oldest (age 9) was able to put it together for the lever machine and do the experiments with the weight. I do wish that there was an explanation on how the difference in weight with distance of the lever could be plugged into the formula. We haven’t got to the other machines yet, but overall it is an excellent kit.

Avoid making the elevator
Most are easy to assemble except the elevator. I tried building it and the rod and spool got stuck at the tip. I tried many tools to try and get them off but it won’t budge. It’s supposed to make it to the middle

Must Have
This is a keeper. It works on so many skills, and it's fun.

Not age appropriate
Our 9-year-old grandson needed a lot of direction and assistance with this kit. Lots of tiny pieces that were very hard to put together

Used for 8th grade simple machines lab
I used this set for an 8th grade science lab to go along with our chapter on simple machines. The book we were using did not have good experiments for the lab portion of this chapter so this kit was perfect to beef up that portion and give the students a hands on example of the machines they were reading about. They were very enthusiastic about it!

Idea is GREAT but the instructions could use some tweaks.
I LOVE the idea of this kit. I bought it for a friend's kid, who is 5 and has a beautifully curious mind. He can't read so I need to help which is great - it's bonding time right? I'm a 40yr old woman, and have 20/20 vision (thank you LASIK!) and I STRUGGLED with the guide. First of all, there are somewhat similar pieces, and you need to identify them via a picture by noticing if they have the peg, no peg, how many holes etc.. It's not easy. We had a few "undo" moments because we were using the wrong piece/set them in the wrong direction. Also - and this is not the toy company's fault, this is my 40y old self having been trained to be impatient by every job I've ever worked that drove the GO GO GO no time for READING mentality... But there's too much to read while trying to teach and entertain a tyke. What would be cool is a video link. So we can watch the instructional video and work along. It would also help with corralling the kiddos' attention. Maybe there was one in the instructional book and I just didn't notice. Despite the above, all told - EXCELLENT toy that I would recommend for fun and education. My wonderfully adorable honorary nephew and I made the first part (lever), and he really enjoyed playing with it all night long. It also held the place of honor on his bedside table for at least 1 day which is pretty impressive considering it competed with Legos, a jellyfish he was growing (??? didn't ask for details), and Marvel superheroes.

Playing with purpose!
My 8 year old grandson loved this. The instructions were clear and easy for him to follow without much help from Dad! He has remade the model several times each time with enthusiasm. I will look for another similar "toy".

Nice toy, but overpriced
Toy made from plastic, almost no metal parts so for Grade 2-4 kids excellent home learning on simple machine kids learn at school.
