PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Trim Screws are specialized screws designed to attach drywall sheets to wood or metal studs. Trim head screws are less noticeable when inserted because of the smaller head. Trim Head screws have a head diameter that is about 1/3 smaller than bugle head screws. FROM THE MANUFACTURER These trim screws are used for casement and baseboard moldings, trim, cabinets, and anywhere finishing nails are used. The extra small head design countersinks and hides for a finished look. The sharp self-piercing point provides no need for pre-drilling.

For use in all woods: cedar, redwood, pressure treated wood (ACQ, CA, and CCA recommended). Square drive for confident stick fit while driving. Type 17 point and flat head eliminate predrilling and will lay flat with your decking. Ceramic coating provides superior rust and corrosion protection. Permanent replacement for finishing nails
First, as others have noted, the product photo is not accurate - the threads indeed go all the way to the head. And the head is actually a little smaller and has longer vertical sides than pictured. That said, these screws are excellent for replacing finishing nails in hot climates where temperature cycling will cause finishing nails to pop-out after a few years. They are also much "safer" in that the risk of a wayward hammer blow ruining the molding I am installing is much less. Finally, I love the "square-drive" head - the risk of the driver popping out during installation (and ruining the wood) is nil! Would be nice if a matching bit was included in the large box I purchased but fortunately I had one from a previous project.

Good screw
I'm glad I found these. Didn't know this screw was made in this length. The head is a perfect size for furniture making because the size of the plug used to hide the screw head is about 1/4" diameter which is the size peg used in furniture making. For some reason I could only find longer ones where I live

Too short for my need
I originally bought these because I needed some shorter trim screws. However they ended up being too short and were returned.

I had planned to use standard wood screws but I'm so glad I chose these instead
I friend of mine who is a skilled carpenter advised that I get these 'finish screws' for the custom cabinets that I built for my camper van. I had never used square-drive screws, or even heard of finish screws before his recommendation. I had planned to use standard wood screws but I'm so glad I chose these instead. First I glued up my cabinets with clamps and then pre-drilled and added the screws. They installed very easily and cleanly, and the small head countersinks very well, leaving only a tiny hole to fill with putty. Using screws makes my cabinets stronger (and they need to be strong as they are subject to a lot of vibration on the road) The square drive is easy to use and I already had the proper bit in my driver kit. These are like the best of both worlds between finish nails and wood screws.

Not for Exterior use
I thought these were for exterior use. Why can’t I find short exterior screws with a trim head? Or 1” exterior trim nails for a 16 gauge finish nailer? This same thing in stainless steel would be perfect. If someone has a link send it my way! Also I’m using them for exterior stuff anyway since I got three boxes. I’ll update with how they hold up. I know I’m not the only person doing exterior projects with cedar fence pickets. They are only 5/8” thick so I need some short fasteners.
