Pretty good but some kinks with "matter" technology
Needed a couple of smart plugs and saw there is a brand new technology called "matter" that allows smart devices to continue to function on the local network if the internet is down, and also can work across multiple smart services (alexa, google, etc.) which I found appealing, so I figured if buying new devices today I would be future proofing with matter. After plugging in, I made the mistake of following the included "quick start" instructions which had me setup the tapo app. Don't do this if you want to use matter, there is a separate card for matter instructions, and at least for alexa you have to setup devices in a specific order. To back out of that I hard reset the plug (hold power for 10 seconds) then followed TP-Link's Alexa setup instructions online and paired with an echo dot 5th gen, and that works great! Frankly I'm still confused if the tapo thing is matter or if it's a different protocol from the multiverse and how they work together. The instructions could be clear here on tapo vs. matter. It was a little challenging setting up the pairing with the Android phone (pixel 7) because while I was trying to scan the QR code in the Alexa app a matter device recurring pop-up kept taking over the screen, I think this is from Android but not sure, and assume it found it from bluetooth. I eventually managed to dismiss that and sneak in the scan for alexa before it came back, and I'm still not sure what would have happened had I tried to set it up via that method. Surprise! Matter doesn't actually let you control one service via another (e.g., control the device paired to Alexa from Google) unless you own a hub to pair for each service, and I don't own any Google nest stuff. After I created a code to use it from Google Home, it added the device successfully, but it said offline. So you cannot route Google Home controls on your phone through an echo or vice versa. Sad! So, I actually have a compatible SmartThings hub even though I don't want to control it from that, and I started going through the same steps to get a pairing code, etc. But, it never successfully paired because the app never got passed the screen that says "Preparing." Promising technology but still some work to do. The plug works great and as expected with Alexa routines, I'm very happy on that front. --- Update: I realize I am one of the first reviewers of these matter smart plugs, so I'm sure people are asking "What's a matter with SmartThings?" following this review. I'm happy to report that I saw a SmartThings app update come down on Android today, so on a hunch I tried to setup the plug again by getting a new code from Alexa, and sure enough this time it worked! It's an "Aeotec Smart Home Hub" for those interested.

Works Well With Nest Hub Max
I purchased these Matter based switches to use with our Nest Hub Max. They're easy to pair and respond quickly to commands. I did move the QR Code stickers on them as they're on the side and a bit obnoxious when visible (ideally they'd be painted on the back similar to other switches we own). I'm looking forward to seeing other new Matter/Thread compatible devices TP-Link releases.

Nice that it works with both Alexa and HomeKit ... when it works.
I wanted to try out some smart home products that support the new Matter protocol, and these were a good deal and I had some older smart plugs that I wanted to replace. Installation was mostly fine, they showed up in both the Alexa and Apple Home apps, but didn't work initially. Even after a firmware update, I had to restart them once before they became responsive. They occasionally become unresponsive, where both Siri and Alexa say they are not responding. Unplugging/plugging back in fixes it, but it's annoying. I'm hoping a future firmware update fixes it. It's not bad enough to return them, but almost.

Works flawlessly through SmartThings
This is the 2nd Tapo Matter plug I purchased. It paired within seconds through the Samsung SmartThings environment. As soon as this was done, the plug also appeared in my Alexa app (which is linked to my SmartThings account). All associated routines worked flawlessly since I've had the plugs. I have to remove 1 star for the "Easy to install" because the SmartThings app kept detecting a new device even though I had already paired the smart plug. The simple fix after successful pairing was to unplug the smart plug from the wall outlet, plug it back and voilà!

HomeKit
Does not stay connected to HomeKit you have to unplug from the outlet and plug back in then it works for a short period of time then becomes unresponsive

Very Easy Setup
I have two of these smart plugs. I use them to turn on and off a table and floor lamp at designated time or via Siri. Like the title says, super easy to set up with Apple’s Home app. Just plug it in, scan the enclosed bar code and the Home App will immediately recognize it. They work.

First Smart Plug with Matter - And it Works Great!
The ease of setup was welcomed. The firmware updates automatically, and I had no issue adding it to HomeKit, Alexa or Google. Make sure to add it to those first before the Tapo app to enable the matter portion.

Matter is new and it has some install quirks
Matter is new and I had some initial problems connecting to Google Home and Home Assistant. There were some updates to both and the P125M firmware and some clarifications on connecting to both. With the new instructions I first connected to Google Home, it went smoothly. Then via Google Home I connected it to Home Assistant, again smoothly. Now it is working without problems and I can control with either. And with Home Assistant I can set up automations with it and they work just fine. I can now recommend it.
