Great for classroom and home use. Only matching pieces fit together. Sturdy storage box. Durable, 3" x 3" pieces. Photos for real-life learning. USES BEYOND EARLY CHILDHOOD - These puzzles are ideal for introducing and reinforcing basic words to new English-language learners in both structured and informal activities. Likewise, they are popular tools in speech therapy and memory care settings. The simple, uncluttered design helps reduce distraction and is not 'juvenile' toward adult users. VALUE, QUALITY, AND SAFETY - 40 big (3" x 3") and sturdy boardstock cards are packed in a reinforced cardboard storage box, for many years of use. These puzzles exceed all children's product safety standards and are tested routinely. And TREND's puzzles are designed and manufactured in the USA. LEARNING CAN BE A GAME - As students grow in ability and confidence, introduce challenges to help lock in and extend their skills - like a puzzle piece concentration game, or by counting how many matches they can make in a given time. What other words can they think of that rhyme with the puzzle pieces? Designed for ages 4 and up. RESEARCH BASED, CLASSROOM PROVEN - Repetition of the matching activity is key to building brain connections, so we use big, detailed, attention-getting photographs to illustrate commonly-used words. Basic printing is large and easy to read. And only matching pieces fit together so the learner knows when a match is made. These elements build enjoyment, and that leads to playing again and again. PUT IT TOGETHER TO BUILD WORD POWER - Introduce and reinforce common vocabulary with short-vowel sounds in 20 three- and four-letter words. Photo cues match written words, and unique puzzle shapes encourage trial and error learning which leads to mastery. Supports learning standards from early-childhood professional organizations as well as national and state guidelines.

Good for beginning readers. Pre-K to kindergarten
I loved that it is 2 sided and they did a good job of distinguishing the sides. The plain white side had a cvc (consonant vowel consonant) words like cat. My 3-1/2 year old was able to sound out and solve. The colored rim side had words that were a lot harder. It didn’t follow any particular spelling rule. I had to teach my toddler to look at the picture and say the sounds. I pulled out 3 words with different initial/ beginning sounds and she was able to solve them that way. Note to the manufacturer: if you made a set of cvc words for sound out / reading. You can make a 2nd box of certain word that follow a certain spelling rule. Example: cake bake lake You can make a 3rd box following another spelling rule like sh. Ch. tr. blends. If you made them like that ... as an educator I would by them all.

Great product for first words
Pros: 1. The product is as described. 2. The puzzles are sturdy enough for my 2 year old (28 months). 3. I agree with the recommended age even though my daughter is 2. The reason why I agree is because to get full use of the product as designed with vowel sounds etc 3 to 4 is a good starting point. 4. My 2 year old enjoys this. She does struggle getting the pieces to actually stick together but that is more about her technique and not the cards. I use this along withLearning to Read First Words set that I purchased from Joann Fabrics. There is some overlap, but at this point reinforcement is fine. 5. It is a fun way to teach my daughter First Words 6. Great gift idea Cons: 1. There are only 20 words. I think there should be more for the money. 2. As my daughter pulled one card a part from the perforated edge like she should have the back card board began to rip. This only happened on one of 40 pieces but it did happen. It did not destroy the card because I grabbed it from her, but I wanted to mention this because one of the ratings is for durability. 3. I do think calling a chicken a hen without a rooster card is a little confusing. I do understand that would require a card with more syllables and the author is making this very simple. I am working with a 2 year old which is not the recommended age.

Great puzzle!
Great puzzle! I like how they had harder words on the back. My kid was guessing on a lot of them based on the first letter but she was still exposed to the written word which I liked. At the end during clean up I pushed her a little further by giving her the picture and I held up two similar words and she had to pick the right one

Phonics Short Vowel Word Puzzle!
It's hard to find games which feature phonics short vowel words. This puzzle game is great for that. You could use it with children as young as two showing them how to sound out the words, and then reading them. I teach teachers and parents how to teach reading, and this is a fun addition to materials for phonic instruction. Love the photos and great choice of words. There are 20 short vowel words to match to a picture.

Didáctico y de buena calidad
A mi hijo de 4 años le gustó mucho este puzzle, les ayuda a los niños pequeños a identificar la palabra con el concepto y es la primera introducción al mundo de la lectoescritura.
