Swivels in all directions
This does swivel in all directions. The handle is metal and the plastic portion seems to be fairly robust. I plan on buying the precut cardboard shields from Home Depot for $1.00 each.

With a little grinding or filing will do a 90 degree bend
Very comfortable and well made handle. Will swivel up to a little over 45 degrees out of the box. But you can see where the handle has a bit to much material to clear the base of the plastic paddle. But the slot can be filed or ground to give it a chamfer on each side that will clear the paddle at its ball end so it will swivel to a full 90 degrees. The slot DOES NOT need to be made wider, just chamferred as you would for a butt weld. The handle really holds firmly at whatever angle you set it to, even at 90 degrees if you modify yours. It does so withjust easy finger tightening of the lock screw. The paddle holds the cardboard shields from Home Depot very well. If the factory had chamferred the slot to allow a 90 degree setting I would give it a five star rating.

Broke on the First Day
I was excited to use this product because I thought it would be great to hold cardboard paint shields. The product looked sturdy and well-made when I took it out of the package. I used it to spray a shield couple of rooms while painting, then suddenly, while in use, the plastic broke! Between the cardboard holder and the female threads just snapped. So my review is that the shield holder did its job for a while, but it's not made well enough for professional use.

very heavy
The idea is good but It's way too strong and heavy. I got rid of the handle and ball joint end, and screwed the cardboard holder to a cut off end of a broom end so I'd have the female threads. I then screwed this into a plastic universal pole swivel attachment. This way I can still adjust with the swivel attachment, and hold the cardboard. I also cut a lot of plastic off of the holder since it is way too strong for just holding a piece of cardboard. Worked great. The holder tongs will bend the cardboard if slid all the way in which then makes it not mask a straight edge. I just made sure to not slide it all the way.

Should be a great addition
This in conjunction with the disposable cardboard shields will be awesome
