PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Watts Premier pH Balance Ceramic Filter is composed of functional mineral that not only help increase the pH in the water at a consistent level but will also improve the water taste by releasing healthy minerals like calcium and magnesium into your water. This filter contains multiple filtration stages including far infrared mineral stones re-mineral phase and pH phase providing perfectly balanced proportions of enriched minerals necessary for healthy great tasting water. These layers include: Sediment filter to reduce any silt sediment or particulate Mineral filter designed for a balanced slow release of calcium and magnesium pH balancing alkalization through specially formulated alkaline ceramic media. Activated ceramic phase for far-infrared release and activation of the water coral media for pH balancing mineral extraction and improved taste. The filter should be placed after the membrane and before the holding tank on your reverse osmosis system. The pH Balance Ceramic Filter should not be used as a stand alone filter. The more contact time that the water has with the media the more effective the filter will be at producing alkaline water. Note: The inlet connection is the outer fitting and the outlet is the center fitting. FROM THE MANUFACTURER Watts Premier 560060 11-1/2 pH Balance Ceramic Filter 1/4 QC. WP560059 RO Water Filtration PH Balancing. quick 1/4 connects. longer break in time without RO storage tank. my RO was about PH4, using this filter with out tank PH gets close to 6. i store my filter KITS in the fridge and make about 8 gallons a week from well water. i boil the water after FILTERS, then let cool, then put in fridge for the week for drinking and cooking. 1 gal jugs x5, 3L jugs x3. currently trying new 5gallon table jug with spout.

Quality Product - Install Not as Easy
The installation directions were ok, but I am not sure if my filter is supposed to lay down like this. The tubes are so solid that if you try to bend the tubes to stand it up, the water sprays out of fittings. Also the included fittings did not fit our lines. I did not realize this until I cut the line so a stressful trip to the hardware store to search for 3/8 which was my size line to 1/4 which was the size of the filter as you can see in pic the reducing push fittings. The ones included are 1/4 to 1/4. The filter itself is quality and I am not sure if it is working, but I do not taste any difference. Ideally it would be better to include fittings that have a shutoff valve so that the filter can be changed without shutting all the water off next time.

I can drink coffee again! Installed with Costco Watts Premier RO system.
Now that I'm older I can't drink Starbucks coffee anymore because anything super acidic hurts my stomach. So I dried the Nestle freeze-dry stuff at home and it was still giving me stomach problems...I didn't realize the RO process makes water acidic. I almost gave up. Recently I heard from someone that RO changes water pH to acid. I've had a Costco Watts Premier RO system installed for a long time now and I didn't realize this until recently. I bought pH indicator drops to test the water and sure enough, the water was in the 3.5 - 4.5 range (city water into my tap was pH 7). I quickly bought this pH balancing filter and now I'm consistently getting basic water in the 9.5 - 10.5 range. I've produced about 10 gallons now. And now when I use it with my Nestle freeze-dry coffee, my stomach is OK! If you have a Costco Watts Premier like me, installation is simple. Here's what you do: - turn off valve from your water source - turn off the tank valve - locate the blue line between your RO filters and your tank - cut the blue line half way between with a sharp knife (like a razor blade or exacto) - jam the 2 quick-connects on the pH filter. - jam the blue lines onto the other end of the quick-connects. Despite what some of the other reviews have said, I'm not convinced this filter has any real in-out direction, so I don't think it matters whether you connect the lines to the center or outer port. But to be complete, I connected my center port to the tank. I would also flush/discard the 1st tank of water. The taste of the RO water hasn't changed. I even did a blind test of the acidic vs alkaline water on my wife. She was very certain which of the two cups she tasted was the acidic water and which was the alkaline...until I laughed and said her answer was wrong. I also tested it on a friend and she couldn't tell the difference either.

Works if you take a small sip every hour or so... !
I expected more from Watts. (As in the claim "Filter re-mineralizes, pH balance, proper alkalization, far-infrared activation and balanced mineral elution of RO water") Reviews of final water ph on this filter range from "It does nothing" to "PH 8 and up"... and I know WHY this is so. (BTW - you can't test water ph properly with paper strips!) I just got off the phone with watts premier tech support and they tell me that ph 6 is neutral (!) and that is what the filter is specified to produce. Every grade school kid knows 7 is neutral...more on that below... What it actually does is produce a brief spurt of ph 8 water, then once the water that has been sitting in the cartridge itself has passed out the faucet, it reverts to doing nothing much. Meaning after it sits a couple hours, it yields an initial cup full of alkaline water, then the rest of your water is pretty much untouched. Boo.... The science I used to test it - three sources, my own calibrated lab ph meter with a water electrode, the local water treatment plant, and a separate test of my own with phenol red reagent. Results as described above. The science they ignored to reach the "brilliant" conclusion that 6 is neutral: The pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral. A pH less than 7 is acidic. A pH greater than 7 is basic. The pH scale is logarithmic and as a result, each whole pH value below 7 is ten times more acidic than the next higher value. For example, pH 4 is ten times more acidic than pH 5 and 100 times (10 times 10) more acidic than pH 6. The same holds true for pH values above 7, each of which is ten times more alkaline (another way to say basic) than the next lower whole value. For example, pH 10 is ten times more alkaline than pH 9 and 100 times (10 times 10) more alkaline than pH 8. UPDATE: Also put a review directly on the manufacturers website. They declined to publish it. Guys, the science does not lie. You can alkalize a few ounces of water sitting in the cartridge over a period of an hour or so, but you can't treat water as you dispense it through that cartridge to an alkaline ph in a single pass that lasts only about 3 seconds tops... VERDICT: Let it sit an hour, then test the first cup of water out of the filter, you'll get ph 8 or even 10. Let it run a bit and then sample it, and it's going to be just as acid as it was without this thing installed... !

Important to Use with RO Systems
You need to condition your RO water to ensure it has an appropriate pH. You will need a pH testing kit. This filter should be added to your system every time you change the carbon and polishing filters. This will ensure your water is not too acidic. We have tried other systems but have found this one to be the best. Recommended.

Works great. pH more alkaline.
Just buy it

Now my water is too alkaline.
After installing it (between the faucet & the tank), ph of the water increased from 6.4 to slightly over10 which is way too alkaline. I was hopping to raise it to around 7 to 8.
