PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Weller transforms hand soldering The art of hand soldering has been around for a very, very long time, thousands of years in fact. But it was only until 1941 that a transformer based instant heating soldering method was developed by an impatient American radio repairman who was tired of sitting around waiting for his soldering gun to heat up. Carl E. Weller had to wait until after WWII ended in 1945 to get his Weller Manufacturing Company going. In 1960, the Weller Manufacturing Co. in the US patented the “Magnastat” soldering iron which used a magnetic component to regulate the temperature at the iron’s tip. In an expansion overseas beginning in 1959, the Weller GmbH plant in Besigheim, Germany, along with new plants in other countries, was organized to manufacture temperature controlled irons and soldering guns for primarily industrial markets throughout Europe and the Near East. Keeping pace with the increasing complexity of our customers’ needs, Weller Germany became the market leader for developing and manufacturing hand soldering products worldwide. Our products were proudly emblazoned with “Made in Germany”, signifying innovation and reliability. FROM THE MANUFACTURER The Weller 6966C is a 250 Watt/120 Volt lightweight heat gun that weighs less than a pound. This ESD safe heat gun is perfect for repetitive or continuous use in production plants, labs, and electronics service facilities. Excellent
This compact heat gun gets into places the larger models won't. Very useful in automotive electronics installation and repair. The steam of heat is narrowly focused allowing you to more accurately shrink tubing.

Heat when and where you need it; only 250 Watt power draw
Too many times most shops use one of those heavy industrial heat guns for smaller subassemblies and their wiring, blasting heat into the pcbs and on sensitive components in an effort to heat shrink some tubing on a connector. Not with this. This channels just the right amount of heat where its supposed to go. And it doesn't use 1500 Watts of power to do it. I wanted to give this five stars, but it has the annoying habit of falling over a lot. Its design does not allow for a stable rest position on a table. Still, it can't be beat for today's miniature and micro electronic devices.

Great for heatshrink tubing
This is an easy to use, well made heat gun. I use it for quickly and easily shrinking heatshrink tubing.

better and cheaper options are available
I bought this products, as a long time Weller customer. For my particular application (melting and removing CA glue) there are better and more affordable options out there. I'm sure it's fine for heat-shrink, though.

Good mini heat gun.
I have used the original model for many years. I bought this replacement because I lost the old one. The gun seems to function the same as the old one. The deflector hoods seem to be made of softer material so you have to be careful the tips do not fall off. Also the fit and finish of the tips are not as good as the original. May want to consider using a small hose clamp for good retention of the tips.

It does the job.
I bought it to replace one which was many years olde and lost during a move. It is ideal for shrinking heat shrinkable tubing and for that I highly recommend it. One of the fittings which came with it distributes the hot air around the tubing. It would not be good where a huge amount of heat is required, such as for thawing frozen pipes, but that is not what it is designed for.

Nice Tool
Wish I had bought this years ago. Works great on heat-shrink tubing and fits into tight areas to shrink that tubing. Seems like a quality tool so far. I'm deducting one star for poor quality control at Weller. My heat gun arrived with one of the heat nozzles missing, #6956, the only one I really needed. Amazon couldn't replace this $2 part alone so the entire heat gun had to be returned and replaced. The replacement had all four nozzles.
