won't fit Chicago (Harbor Freight) but...
I bought this for my cheap Harbor Freight (non-Weller) soldering gun; it does fit but only if you tweak it a little, bending the item so the two prongs align with the pipes they have to go into. Worked fine after that.

Works well
I have an old Craftsman soldering iron that was likely made by Weller many years ago. The hot knife tip had to be bent slightly to fit the distance between the Craftsman terminals and the Weller. This was not particularly difficult to do and once mounted it worked like a charm. I will use it to cut rope and sail cloth and to seal ends of sail threads.

As advertised
Works great

Cutting portion measures about 3/4”
The cutting portion measures about 3/4” and was smaller than I expected. I didn’t cut with it but after having it in my hand I don’t think I would want to try cutting anything larger than 5/8”.

Works excellent
Was looking at a rope cutter and I found this. I already had a Weller solder gun so this made sense. This works like a charm.

My rope cutting buddy
I purchased this tip for 3 reasons: 1) I need to cut nylon and polypropylene rope 2) I already owned a Weller soldering gun, and 3) I really wanted a nice rope cutting tool like this:Pearson Electric Rope Cutter , but couldn't possibly justify the price for my needs. Once I got it, I found that it does exactly what you think it does: it cuts rope, and does so relatively well. Once it's hot, it cuts through both nylon and polypropylene rope, even fairly heavy rope, with relative ease - and nicely melts both ends to seal and prevent fraying/unraveling of the rope. Besides that it does what it's supposed to do, another positive is that it's much safer than using a match, lighter, candle, or torch to melt and seal the ends of the rope. Nobody really enjoys having hot liquid nylon drip onto their bare skin! There are a few things that you should be aware of: 1) It takes a little while (perhaps 45-60 seconds) for the tip to heat up to good working temperature from a cold start. I am sometimes impatient, and forget this... but if I prepare my work correctly, I'll get the tip hot and do several cuts consecutively while holding the gun trigger to keep it hot. 2) Over time, I have found that it tends to collect burnt rope residue. This was a minor annoyance at best, however - it takes just a few seconds to scrape the hot blade with a flat-bladed screwdriver to clean it for further use. 3) It requires some degree of coordination to hold a rope to be cut with one hand, and the soldering gun with this tip in the other hand, and to make good clean cuts. But if I was able to do it, most people should also be successful. Some people may find better success laying the rope to be cut on a piece of scrap wood, so they can cut through with this tip and risk only heat marks on the scrap. If you have large volumes of rope cutting to do and/or will use the tool on a daily basis, I can strongly recommend the rope cutter I linked to above - it's great. But if you already own a soldering gun and will use it only occasionally - this could be just the tool for you. For the price, why not give it a try? It was definitely worth it for me!

Nice cutter
I have 2 set up 1 for rope the other used for striping wire without damaging the conductors. (vary important in avionics)

This is the best money I've spent in a while.
This device attached directly to my existing soldering gun and cuts nylon rope like a knife through hot butter. You'll never use anything else to cut nylon rope again.

Great value rope cutter
Great value rope cutter. Much cheaper to use my soldering gun than buy a whole new tool.

works great, not stainless steel?
this attachment heats to the correct temperature to cut nylon ropes and stays there. it doesnt seem to get too hot. one strange thing is the first time I used it, when it got to temperature it flashed off / smoked off some kind of metallic coating, almost as if it was tinned with solder. I don't really understand why it would have been coated. anyway, I have cleaned that off with steel wool.

Did not work well for me.
Stopped working after 3 uses...I don't know if it was the gun itself or the attachment or the combination of both, but i returned the Weller gun I had bought for it and put this cutting element in the trash... Hopefully it was just bad luck for me.

Sturdy but need to get d550 not 8200
This works on both Weller guns but it cuts slower with the 8200 Weller. So it just takes longer to cut ⅜rope

Works well but plating comes off easily.
Worked very well but the plating came off easily despite proper cleaning with wet sponge. If your gun uses the tips with the captured nuts, you can put a pair of nuts on it and bend this one to fit your older gun.
