Beware: Drain top sits several inches above seal, not flush when in use

I purchased this drain kit and had it professional installed by a contracted plumber. When I went to use the tub for the first time, I pushed the drain top down to seal it and found that while it absolutely seals and works properly, the design is horrendous. The drain top doesn't push down flush or even close to flush with the seal and sits up above the seal by an inch or so. So not only does it look bad but it's also a real hazard for bathing children as there's a big round drain tub poking up that they can bump into. I called Westbrass directly to verify that this was the intended design and that my plumbers hadn't installed it incorrectly and while their customer service representative was very nice, she verified that was absolutely the way it was designed. I cannot fathom how anyone would want a drain top that sits up so far above the drain, I wish I had known this or been able to discern this from the product photos or description. A huge disappointment.
