Customized but it worked well for my situation.
I had a very tight spot I needed to accommodate and after some modifications and duct work aluminum tape it was a very nice design. This allowed me to eliminate using a flex pipe so it was well worth the time and money. Just keep in mind you will need to do a little sheet metal trimming if you are shorting it in a tight spot.

Works great
Works great to allow for the dryer to be pushed back as close to the wall as possible. First one came damaged/bent but the second one came fine. I wish the seller had a better packaging considering how fragile it is.

Never Knew I Needed This
File this under one of those products that you never knew you needed it until you knew you needed it! I looked at it about a year ago, shortly after moving into my current house, but read some bad reviews. So instead, I opted for the traditional, semi-rigid duct. And of course, it immediately got squashed between my clothes dryer and the wall. So here's my setup, in case it helps anyone else. The dryer vent duct in my wall is about 10" above the baseboard. It is in a place that allows exactly for the washer to be placed next to it, in a corner. The dryer vent duct is, obviously, at the base of the dryer. Hence, I had about 10" between the two. Due to the layout of my laundry area, the dryer needs to be pushed as close to the wall as possible. With a semi-rigid duct, this meant it was squished to just an inch or so thick. This presents a huge fire hazard, because lint will likely clog up that narrow opening. After replacing that duct several times, always with the same result, I decided to try this "periscope." Straight out of the box, I could tell this thing was exactly what I needed. Simply slide the ends closer to each other. Despite what others say on here, you likely will have to cut the excess off. Maybe not on the end that attaches to the duct in your wall, but most likely on the end that attaches to your dryer. If you think about it, it makes sense - your dryer vent is likely within 1" of the floor. If the duct extends more than 1" beyond the vent, then it will scrape against your floor. However, with tin snips, the cutting took all of about 30 seconds. I did tape all of the ends off, since they're a little sharp. And I taped around some of the joints where the pieces clasp over one another, to ensure a good seal. This went on SO easy. I've run several loads since installing it, and reached down to feel it. It is not at all hot. And I feel no air coming out of the sides or ends, which I was a little worried about. Best of all, it allows my dryer to fit snug up against my wall, a few inches offset of the wall duct, without compromising the venting functionality. Wow, I'm impressed. I never knew these things existed. But I wish I'd pulled the trigger and bought it, a year ago, when I first came across it. It's just perfect!

Not idiot proof
Installation is not necessarily idiot proof. Exhibit A: Me. The periscope would not easily fit over the tailpipe extending out from the wall, so I opened the periscope so I could apply direct pressure to push it on. I didn't notice how the baffles were oriented before they fell out. I assumed the baffles were to be fully contained inside the periscope. The 1994 dryer overheated causing consequential damage which I repaired. I discovered that the baffles had slipped out of place and blocked the airflow (a few others have had the same issue). I then realized that the right angle bend of the baffles needs to extend outside of the periscope so that it will be captured in place when the periscope is slid back together. See the sequence of four photos that make my point. That is my current theory, and I am sticking with it unless/until I am proved an idiot for a second time. Otherwise, the periscope served my needs of reducing the amount of space needed between the side wall of my laundry bay where the house dryer vent comes out, and the side of the dryer. I kept the periscope fully extended and leaning backwards against the back wall so that I can reach over the dryer and unscrew the dryer attached semirigid vent tubing from the periscope with relative ease in the future.

Allows You to Move Your Dryer Closer to the Wall
This box type vent is much slimmer than a standard dryer vent hose; so it allows you to put your dryer closer to the wall. It is a bit of a chore to install, but not much harder than a normal hose. You do need to clean the box at least yearly because the shape allows lint to get trapped. May not work with all dryers, but this Whirlpool accessory works fine on my Maytag dryer.

Best solution
My gas dryer was located in such a position relative to the exhaust vent, that if using a regular duct; it would rip at the slightest movement and then some lint and hot air would escape. The dryer ended up sucking in all this dirty and hot air. I had to disassemble the machine just to vacuum all the lint covering every inch of the inside. Clothes were always covered in lint, not to mention the laundry room. This solved all my problems. P.S. make sure you buy enough foil tape (not duct tape) to seal the periscope. If you don't seal it, it's pointless.

Works but needs more
Edit: as others have mentioned, the two wedge pieces inside are not secured in place. One ended up dislodging about a month after placement, blocking the vent. Our dryer alerted us with an error. We removed the wedge pieces and it seems to be working fine now. Originally review: This works and helped us get our dryer closer to the wall. So in that area it is a success. However, it is extremely flimsy and the seams leak air terribly. We used foil tape to line all the edges before installation but it wasn’t enough! We’ve had to go back multiple times and add more tape because the hot air leaks and makes our laundry room hot. I love the idea and function of this device, I just wish the execution was a little better.

This product didn’t reduce the distance to the wall over expandable hose. Maybe it’s me?Meh?

Great for tight places
Moved into a new home where the owner had absconded with the washer and dryer, leaving an empty double-closet in the back of the house to squeeze the new ones into. This has worked great for attaching the dryer to the outlet vent as there's no space for a flexible ducting pipe. My only complaint is it's hard to attach sturdily. Metal clamps didn't work well so I ended up wrapping with foil tape. Just pulled the dryer out to clean it after three years and no lint build-up at all inside.

Works perfectly!
No more heat in laundry room from crappy tube. Exhausts dryer perfectly. Easy hookup..dryer is back against wall more so more room to walk around. Surprising built solid..other reviews had issues but mine is great. No leaks.

Works perfectly
Easy to work with. You will need a good set of tin snips but not hard to cut. Was able to move my dryer back 6 inches using this .
