In order to cook hard rice bran and the rice inside, preheating time is extended for better absorption of water, and is cooked at a lower temperature to allow the rice to cook longer without becoming mushy. SUSHI RICE Because sushi rice will be processed after it's cooked, it's easier to handle when it is a little firmer. This menu setting is very similar to regular white rice, but uses less water (adjusted by the water fill lines) for a firm finish. MIXED Mixed rice is rice cooked with additional ingredients and seasonings. This setting extends preheating for better absorption of seasoning. Also, the cooking temperature is slightly lower than regular white rice, to avoid ingredients from boiling over. PORRIDGE Instead of cooking rice in larger amounts of water and risk making it sloppy, use the porridge setting to cook fluffy porridge. Cooking temperature is slightly lower than regular white rice, to be cooked longer for soft texture. STEAM Steam your favorite foods. Steaming function can be lengthened or shortened by adjusting time setting. MICOM (MICROCOMPUTER) TECHNOLOGY Aided by microcomputer technology, this category of rice cooker takes having rice on your menu from “occasional” to “serious”. Basically, the microchip does all the thinking for you, as far as adjusting cooking times and temperatures according to the type of rice you are cooking, and timing the pre-soaking of the raw grains and the final “wait” period during steaming. MICOM allows the cooker to have multiple functions on its menu, making it a necessity for any avid rice fan who wants to incorporate rice into her daily diet. HOW IT WORKS Conventional rice cookers simply turn on and off in reaction to temperature. The “fuzzy logic” of MICOM fine tunes this adjustment to adapt to various rice types, such as white, brown, sweet or porridge, which all has different cooking requirements. The trigger to everything is the thermal sensor, a small round button at the bottom of the inner body of the cooker. As the inner pan’s weight rests on it and activates the sensor, it starts the cooking process and keeps an eye on the temperature and time. KEY FEATURES: Easy-to-read LCD control panel with clock and timer features Black thick inner cooking pan provides even heating for better cooker. BPA Free Steaming basket Convenient detachable inner lid for easy cleaning. Accessories include rice measuring cup, nonstick rice spatula and spatula holder.

Perfect rice every time
I've wanted a Zojirushi rice cooker for several years, but wondered if it really was THAT much better than the inexpensive Chinese-built 10-cup cooker that had been in regular weekly use for the last 10 years. Short answer: yes. It's THAT much better. My old rice cooker was a very basic, made in China, 10-cup flip top rice cooker. The non-stick coating in the rice pot was very thin and fragile, and from day one, there was always some overcooked, crunchy rice in the very bottom of the pan near the heating element. I learned to immediately uplug the rice cooker as soon as the rice was done, or even with a minute or two showing on the timer. With the Zojirushi, there is nothing tricky or fussy. I mostly cook medium grain (sushi) rice, and use the recommended water/rice level as indicated on the inside of the rice pot. It's important to remember that "one cup" of rice is not the 240 ml US cup standard, it's the 180 ml rice industry standard, so use the cup that's included with the purchase if you use the water level indicators on the pot. It's also a good idea to let the rice rest for five minutes after the cook time has concluded to allow the moisture to evaporate a bit, and the heat to distribute evenly through the cooked rice. This resting period is not mandatory, but it's become a habit for me, and I just factor it into the meal prep time. After the resting period, fluff the rice with the included paddle, and it's good to go. There are two warm settings on the Zojirushi, I generally use the lower setting. I don't need to use the rice cooker for anything other than rice, and indeed, all I really use are the white/brown/quick and warm settings. The quick rice feature is nice if you really are in a hurry, but I'd suggest you avoid using it unless necessary. The white/sushi rice settings cook perfectly. Every grain, every time. The rice is tender, and never gummy. According to Zojirushi, micro computer, fuzzy logic tech allows the rice cooker to make cooking temp and time adjustments on the fly to insure perfectly cooked rice. This model, the NL-AAC-10 is Made in Japan, unlike many cookers in the Zojirushi line. That is important to me, but it does come at a price. Less expensive models, made in China, are also available, and likely work just as well, so you may choose savings over the country of origin. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this purchase, and can attest to the fact that it really does produce a superior cooked rice as compared to my older, basic rice cooker. I could have saved over 100 dollars by buying another cheap, generic rice cooker, but we do a LOT of Asian cooking in our house, so really felt that the upcharge was worth it, especially after we've used this one for a few weeks. Highly recommended

Don't Hesitate, This is Worth It.
There are few things that get 5-stars and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again or recommend. This is one of them. You'll wish you would have bought a rice cooker of this caliber sooner. I will say, if you're cooking for a family, or like to cook in bulk for meal prep, consider a larger capacity, but would still recommend this brand. Or simply leverage the timer feature and enjoy fresh rice always.

Where has this been all my life??
Love this! I can make a big batch of rice. It takes 5 minutes to put together and all I have to do is put the rice/water in and push Start. No more babying the rice in a pot. It's so easy to use and I love the little diddy it plays at the start and finish of a cycle! Very easy to clean and not heavy.. It's very well made. Would highly recommend!!!

My old Zojirushi died after about 15 years. Didn't hesitate buying another one. Worth every penny!

Extremely convenient, but make sure you have the counter space
My last rice cooker was also a Zojirushi, but I decided to upgrade so I can cook different types of rice. This model also had the added benefit of being able to steam dou sha bao and vegetables, and family members have been recommending one of the more advanced models for a while. The extended warm, reheat, and timing features are all useful as someone who is often gone for most of the day and it's easy to use as someone who grew up with rice cookers. While I haven't steamed anything yet, the basket is relatively small and requires items to be less than 1" in thickness with an added note to be careful of making any sort of steamed breads, so the traditional bamboo steamers or a multifunction pot might be better if that's one of the primary draws for you. I can already tell I'll be unable to make siopao in this, which is a bit disappointing, but it still cooks items like salmon and bite-sized vegetables (though you can't steam and cook your rice at the same time if the time requirements are too different). The manual the rice cooker comes with is handy for understanding the correct timing for steamed items and it includes several recipes that I've tried and recommend. Another thing to note is the size of the unit. The 1L option is still quite large and you should consider the counter space and storage space available in in your kitchen. All in all, I'm glad I've made this purchase and I can see it becoming a great long-term investment (knock on wood).

Uncle Roger
I first heard about this rice cooker from the YouTuber Uncle Roger. He was saying it was the best rice cooker. So when my old one died, I knew exactly which rice cooker I wanted. This rice cooker is the best rice cooker I have ever used. Perfect rice every time!

Great small scale rice cooker
Great easy to use rice cooker. I bought this product because I have always used a pot to cook rice and it takes a long time and requires attention throughout the cooking process. This has drastically helped to reduce the work that is needed for me to make rice. The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because of the time that it takes. One regular cycle takes almost a whole hour which I find to be a bit long for rice. Consulting with friends and family, many rice cookers take less time than that. Other than that, all functions work well and I will continue to cook my rice in this cooker.

Love it. excellent for cooking porridge which came out ...
Bought this rice cooker 1 month ago. Love it. excellent for cooking porridge which came out nice and soft. The timer to set when to finish cooking is an excellent feature. This cooker is made in Japan and the finish is very good. A similar cooker with only slight difference in features, model NS-TSC10, made in China is $70 cheaper. I think that would have been a better value, but I do not have that product to made any direct comparison. Definitely would recommend this cooker, but look at the alternative model NS_TSC10 as well..
