The golden hind was an English Galleon best known for its global circumnavigation between 1577 and 1580, Captain by Sir Francis Drake, who on his return with a haul of Spanish gold and other treasures was knighted by Queen Elizabeth. The hind was a well armed and nimble Galleon, she was originally commissioned as the Pelican and built in Deptford, London, where she was launched in 1577. She was the flagship of an expedition to explore the regions beyond South America commanded by Drake, with personnel support of Queen Elizabeth of England. Drake's mission became one less of exploration and more of Piracy as he wreaked havoc against Spanish interests in the region.

A nice kit but a lot of flashing
The fitment of all the parts is good. Over all I gave it 4 stars due to the flashing. I enjoyed building is and it’s an interesting subject In the picture it is ready for final assembly and paint. Its a pretty cool model and the flashing cleans up well. I have not finished the riggings as of yet.

Enjoyable kit
This is a very old kit and is therefore not without its problems. There is some flash but I’ve seen a lot worse. The biggest problems were quite a severe warping on the port hull half although I did manage to manipulate it in the end and it fitted ok. Another problem is the locating holes on the deck for the foremast and mainmast which are not correctly aligned fore and aft so when fitted the mast stands at an angle. Not easy to rectify without major surgery. As usual with Airfix, everything is stuffed Into a single polythene bag resulting in several parts being bent or broken. Having said that there are a lot of plus points - the 1/72 scale gives quite a large model with excellent surface detail including planking and scribing for the complex paint scheme which makes life much easier. The finished model looks vey impressive although you need to do a bit of research on the rigging as the kit instructions are way too simple. Excellent value for money, a challenge to paint and overall a very enjoyable kit to build.

Very demanding Elizabethan dazzle paintwork and the rigging is A level stuff.
I've had to cut corners on the paintwork and have yet to confront the rigging. Good model although one sailor has lost a leg due to a plastic injection shortfall. Maybe its worth experimenting with templates for the painting and the shrouds need a lot of practice and you'll need a glue which can be brushed on to a lattice of thread.
