At the outbreak of WWII, the RAF had over 500 Hawker Hurricanes in their squadrons. They may not have had the most speed or best manuevering compared the Spitfire, but the manufacturing line and repair were quick and easy to fix. Over the course of production, more than 14,000 Hawker Hurricanes were built. Because of its reliability, being flown in missions for ground attacks and less directly in dogfights, the plane demonstrated that even being heavier and slower than most of its counterparts, it could still continue to serve in a beneficial roles in the Royal Air Force especially when facing the enemy in the cover of night. The MK I model features the first production of Hurricanes that sported both fabric covered wings and then were revised to feature metal covered wings with better armor and several other improvements over the beginning stages of as the production was increased.

For experienced modelers only
Before I even opened up the box that the kit came in I was a little disappointed, I could hear the rattling of loose parts, about 25 parts were at the bottom of the bag. Thankfully nothing was broken. Pros: -for someone with sausage fingers it is beneficial when working on a big scale like this. -nice rivet details -clear parts weren’t scratched Cons: -lots of clean up due to flash -lots of bold seam lines that need scraping -the fit isn’t the best -ejector pin marks where there shouldn’t be, like on panels that should of been turned around when the mold was designed -directions are poorly printed and kinda vague -paint call out numbers are there but there isn’t a paint reference chart except for the exterior colors All in all, this is a challenging kit, and definitely not for a beginner and not for the faint of heart!!

Arriver with bent wing sections
Great kit, but this one arrived with a bent lower wing section and a bent right and left upper wing sections. Kinda ruined the model for me.

A blast from the past
What can you say that hasn't already been said about this kit. Considering how old it is, the moulding is pretty crisp and fairly accurate, with a decent level of detail. The price is also a deciding factor, especially if you can get it below the rrp. The only downside, is the Airfix one bag for everything in a slightly oversized box, which in my case led to a couple of small parts being broken hence the 4 star rating. These *were* replaced after a rather annoying big brother level of interrogation about the exact details, dates, parts, etc. etc. Once I did pass the entrance exam, the parts were immediately dispatched. So to sum up, just buy one especially if you see it in the £40 price range!

Enjoyable but needs patience.
Really enjoyable to make, a lot better than the Spitfire Mk1. Alot of work involved and needs some filler and trimming and gentle persuasion!! Unlike the Spitfire you can only have the wheels up or down, you can have both. I chose to have mine up. Took approx 40+ hours to build, and don’t rush it if you want to do a good job. Looks good next to the Spitfire M1. I’m in the middle of making a Spitfire MK Vb 1/24 at the moment, in the colours of Jan Zumbach.
