The Astro 7580 Automotive Drill & Tap set is designed to cover 90%+ of SAE automotive fasteners by including the most common automotive taps and HSS drills to match. The taps included in this set can be driven by the included ratchet that quickly switches from forward to reverse using the patented handle selector or standard 3/4" (19mm) sockets and wrenches. Chosen to withstand shattering, the taps are machined from a heat treated imported Japanese tool steel alloy. LOVED the ratchet handle design since I could back the tap out to break the chip without messing with a thumb lever, however, the rest of the set is pretty much poor quality. Only a few of the taps were 3 flute (if you don't know, 3 flutes are much less likely to break which is a big deal since a broken hardened steel tap is pretty much there for life so it can present a big issue in certain circumstances) and the included drills are not the correct size for each tap. What I mean by that is they are using the same drill for a 1/4-20 and a 1/4-28 - problem is that those taps take a #7 and a #3 drill respectively - so using a single drill size for both means they're using an average between the two when that in fact is several drill sizes off for each tap. So if you want a loosely tapped hole this kit is great for you. If you care about the quality of your work you should get something else. The idea that a set of 9 taps comes with 6 drills should have caught my attention before buying, but I overlooked it - don't make the same mistake. I looked for that tap handle elsewhere since that was easily my favorite tap handle I've used, but it seems it's only available in one of these kits and it's not worth spending $70 for a tap handle.

Many uses and no issues

I have used nearly every drill bit and tap in this set multiple times without one issue. The ratcheting handle is great and gives perfect leverage without feeling like you are going to snap a tap off.

Broke on first use & second use

I liked the design, but SMALL holder TEETH broke on first use. Contacted Seller and replacement was sent. Be sure to use the LARGER holder if it holds smaller taps firmly. The large holder broke under LIGHT use. Be sure to check Tap Charts for CORRECT Drill bit sizes, as there are NOT enough drill bits for the Taps supplied.
