First in service', Turret No. 100, Schwere Panzerabteilung 502, Leningrad Sector, late 1942. Even though the Panzerkamfwagen VI Tiger heavy tank was only used in relatively small numbers during WWII, its fearsome reputation and sinister appearance ensured it is regarded as the most famous tank of the Second World War. Another tank developed as a result of Wehrmacht experiences on the Eastern Front, the Tiger may not have shared the cultured appearance of the Panther, but this was a war machine pure and simple and one which was devastatingly effective on the battlefield. Heavily armored and equipped with the powerful 88mm gun, the sighting optics on the Tiger were so effective that enemy tanks could be destroyed at great distances and well before they were in range to return fire. By the time of the D-Day landings, the reputation of the Tiger was already assured, but even though they managed to inflict heavy losses on Allied armoured units, their small numbers were swamped by an overwhelming tide of Allied armoured numerical superiority. Unable to control the battlefield, damaged and unserviceable Tigers were simply abandoned to be captured by advancing Allied troops. Spz. Abt. 502 Heavy Tank Battalion is distinguished by the fact that it was the first to deploy the new Tiger 1 in combat. Formed in August 1942, the battalion arrived at the Leningrad front and soon began to use its Tigers in battle. The turret carries the unit’s famous mammoth insignia.

Tracks Poorly Designed, Fragile.
Quality of product was OK BUT the tracks are very delicate. When I opened the box the track on one aide was already broken. Upon inspection you could see it was poorly designed and fabricated.

Markings don't match the specific model
Nerd alert! This is a late model Tiger. It has a lower commander's copula and the later steel wheels. Hull # 100 is an early Tiger with the stowage bin on the side of the turret instead of the back. That being said this is very impressive for detail.

Easy, Tiger ...
A very nice little tank and finished in a rather fetching dark grey, before the factories started churning them out in desert sand. It sit on a bookshelf now, guarding my burgeoning collection of military history - along with a similar scale Ju 87B Stuka. Am I a Nazi? No. Perish the thought. It's just that Spitfires and Churchills are so bloody boring! Details: rolling road wheels and rubber tracks, a rotating turret, with an adjustable 88, and a tiny MG34 on a mount that pops into the cupola. Also the ball-mounted machine gun on the front plate moves and for a finishing touch, there is a little radio aerial that fits - kind of - into a little hole on the rear deck. Be careful with it though, because it falls right out again. These accoutrements may need a drop of glue to fix them in place or they will be lost. All in all though, it's very nicely put together and worth the extra cash over cheaper variants that skimp on the fineries. This is, after all, the finest-looking tank ever made.
