AMAZON.COM Every kitchen needs several strainers for draining freshly washed fruits and veggies and for straining stocks, sauces, and gravy. This stainless-steel strainer has an 8-inch diameter with two loops at the top for balancing the strainer on a pot or bowl. The strainer basket is made of a double layer of stainless-steel mesh, with each mesh a different weave to increase the efficiency of the straining capacity. (No gravy lumps!) The handle has a wooden insert to offer heat resistance during use, and the handle design includes a loop on the end so the strainer can be hung on a hook or pot rack. --Marcie Bovetz

Good for white flour
But not whole wheat, spelt, corn meal, or other flour. Use it for all purpose flour, and you're good. Also, use it for straining freshly squeezed juice, and you'll get perfect, pulp free juice.

Great for rinsing rice
This is great for rinsing rice without loosing any or getting it stuck in a colander. My only complaint is I wish it was dishwasher-safe.

Heavy duty.
I think this is excellent sturdy strainer for the normal home kitchen.

What a disappointment
I purchased this strainer as a replacement for one that I bought at a local chef's supply store about 3 years ago. From the photograph, it appeared to be the exact same model. When it arrived, the only visible difference compared to my old strainer was the writing on the wooden handle (my new strainer says "Browne - Chile" and I wonder if perhaps they used a new supplier.) Unfortunately, when I used it for the first time, I found that there was a big difference: they used a wider gauge for the inner mesh. As a result, it doesn't strain nearly as well, and much more sediment passes through. I'm going to have to go back to using my old strainer, because this one just won't do the job. On the plus side, double mesh strainers like this one are really strong. If you can accept coarse straining and want a strainer that you can really push on, then this might be the model for you. But I am also noticing what another reviewer said - this strainer rusts. So I cannot recommend this strainer. I would recommend that serious cooks look elsewhere - it isn't worth saving money on a tool that isn't up to the job.

8 inch double mesh strainer
it's great strainer for straining tomatoes. keeps the seeds and skins out, but allows the pulp through. Which makes for ONEA NICEA TOMATOE GRAVY (OR SAUCE whichever) The Wooden Handle does a nice job of stopping your hand from hurting.

Prematurely rusty
Began to show rust spots after less than 1 year of use. Appears to be stainless steel, but is apparently lightly plated mild steel. Spend the money for genuine stainless or an adequately plated version.

Rusted!
I have used this item a total of twice and handwashed it after each use. It is already rusted under the rim as well as in various places in the "bowl". I would not recommend this and wish that I could return this item.
