CURT class 1 trailer hitches are the perfect way to add extra storage space to your vehicle for all events, activities and adventures. For compact cars, sedans and crossovers, a class 1 hitch provides a functional rear receiver tube for attaching a hitch-mounted cargo carrier or bike rack or for towing a light-duty trailer. Class 1 receiver hitches make it easy to pack the things you want without having to cram the trunk or even the backseat full of cargo. Like all CURT custom trailer hitches, each class 1 trailer hitch is designed to fit a specific vehicle application. A vehicle-specific design ensures the best possible fit with the simplest and most secure installation. This particular class 1 hitch offers a custom fit for certain years of the Mazda 3 (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the application information or use the Vehicle Lookup tool). The custom-fit design optimizes the installation to eliminate all unnecessary modifications, and it promotes an integrated look with the vehicle’s existing design features and layout. This Mazda 3 hitch is rated to tow up to 2,000 lbs. gross trailer weight and 200 lbs. tongue weight. This makes it an excellent choice for any cargo carrier or bike rack as well as a variety of lightweight trailers (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). It features a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount or other trailer hitch accessories. The hitch receiver tube also has an open back to allow for easy cleaning as needed. To ensure the safety of you and your passengers, as well as your fellow adventurers on the road, each CURT trailer hitch has been stringently tested in accordance with SAE J684. We maintain a dedicated Engineering facility near Detroit, MI -- the heart of the automotive industry -- to test all of our hitches to strictest safety standards. Our in-house testing technology allows for real-time, on-vehicle testing, placing our hitches under the same stresses present in actual towing conditions. This gives us the utmost confidence in each trailer hitch we make and provides you with a dependable tool to freely pursue your passions. Every CURT custom trailer hitch receiver -- from class 1 to class 5 -- is manufactured right here in the USA to ensure quality from design to finish (may include imported hardware). Our hitches are engineered using real vehicles and a hands-on approach. We fabricate our hitches using a combination of robotic and manual welding for optimum precision and speed. Finally, we finish each trailer hitch with a unique co-curing process. First, we immerse the hitch in a rust-resistant liquid A-coat to coat the entire piece inside and out. Then, a durable black powder coat is applied to seal out rain, dirt, road salt and other threats. Finally, these two coatings are co-cured together, creating an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant finish. To give you complete confidence mile after mile, all CURT tow hitches are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. Great receiver, fit my 2018 Mazda3 hatchback perfectly
Although it was purported to be coming via UPS, it actually arrived via USPS- much to the disapproval of my Postal lady. Even though it had no box and was simply lying on the corrugated aluminum floor of the Postal truck, it remarkably had few scratches. I stopped by ACE and picked up a can of gloss black high-temp grill enamel, removed all stickers and cleaned it well, then gave it a good dose of paint. Good as new! The relative lack of missing original coating says volumes about the hardness of the factory finish. I took my time installing it onto my late 2018 Mazda3 hatchback, and it probably took about an hour by myself, maybe not quite that long. Interestingly, I did NOT have to trim the bumper fascia as was reported, and there's plenty of clearance. Also, the provided fishwire REALLY comes in handy! After all was said and done, it's perfectly centered, perfectly located, and looks quite nice under there. There is NO contact with anything (exhaust, etc.), and there's plenty of clearance for exhaust system movement. You WILL need to place your car on ramps (or a lift), you will thank me by investing in a rubber isolator remover (makes a chore a cinch), and a can of silicone spray (spray the holes of the rubber isolators before removal and prior to reinstallation- they literally slide right back on with a shot of spray). The socket for the 4 robust nuts was 3/4". I had to remove only the two isolators (one on each side) under which the receiver mounts must go. You MIGHT be able to do the job without removing these, but it will absolutely require a lot of colorful metaphors. Best to remove them altogether, install the receiver with relative ease, and reinstall the isolators once everything is torqued. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the installation went, I wasn't so sure about the fishwire (until I used them). You would do well to wear a pair of safety goggles when fooling around and the fishwire, lest you poke an eye out. The design, construction and welding of the Curt receiver was top notch, and despite some reviews, the actual square hole does indeed go all the way through, it's not a blind hole (great news if your hitch bar is long). I would absolutely purchase this again, and I'm glad that I decided on this Curt.

Nice Hitch, Easy to Install, Poor Shipping
I know it's been said in other reviews, but Curt/Amazon need to step up the shipping on these. I bought two of these and they were both shipped "naked" with just some cardboard wrapped around the support bar and some bubble wrap around the hitch receiver. I returned the first one, which came via UPS, because it was scratched in many places and was missing the installation hardware. The second arrived via Amazon and the USPS which came in much better condition. However, during the install I had trouble lining up one of the holes to the car. So, unless my car's frame is bent (it's not), the hitch was either not made straight or was bent slightly during shipping. I was able to muscle it into position, but man that was not easy. They tout how easy it is to install these yourself - which it should be - but the shipping practices are just not good. At a minimum they should wrap the entire hitch in something, not just the crossbar. Other than the above-mentioned snag with the one hole not lining up, installation on my 2017 Mazda3 hatchback was very straightforward and not too difficult. I did it by myself with the help of a jack stand to hold the exhaust up and a floor jack to help me lift and support the hitch. I also backed the car up onto ramps to get better access. It probably would go quicker with two people, but not by much. A lot of the time wasted/spent was just looking things over and figuring out how to fish the wires through, etc. I could probably do an identical one in half the time now. Overall though, I'm satisfied. For the price paid it provides an excellent value and increases the usefulness of my vehicle substantially. I purchased this hitch with the intention of using a bike rack, but will probably utilize if for a cargo carrier and other things too in the future. If you are looking for a hitch for your Mazda3, this is a great choice!

Fit perfect
Instructions were very clear. My first attempt to install I noticed the holes didn't line up by half an inch. Thought i had the wrong hitch but then a measured the hitch and turns out it got bent in the mail. Just bent it back quick and it fit perfectly

Good Fit for Mazda 3 Hatchback
The hitch fits perfectly on my 2015 M3H. Installation is straightforward just follow the instructions. The only downside there were some deep scuffs on the paint, probably during transport, the box is a lot bigger than the hitch and it allows for movement inside, there is no protective material inside apart from some plastic wrap. Solution: since I'm in Canada and winter would of killed the hitch - I bought a can of black automotive spray (Honda Black the only non metallic I found LOL) and one can of lacquer and refinished the paint. I do recommend this since I could see bare metal where the paint was scratched, I hate rusted hitches, it ruins the looks of the car. Enough clearance for exhaust, no rattle noise here ! Actually I can go for the sport exhaust with bigger pipes without any issues.

Exactly what I wanted
Installation was fairly east with the exception of getting the rubber pieces removed from my car (it's been a few months and I can't remember what the part was called). The unit is fairly low profile although it's definitely visible, though that does not bother me. Will have to see how it holds up before giving 5 stars, but so far all boxes are checked and I'm satisfied.

well-thought out, looks great!
all hardware included, even tips to make installation a breeze! minimal fascia cutting involved-- note: it does sit quite low, requires a 'step-up' receiver
