If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Ford Crown Victoria, Ford Mustang and Mercury Grand Marquis (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Easy to install, but the finished install is jank
Super easy to install, instructions are included but you basically just piggyback this into your rear lights. I think it took like 10 minutes on my 97 Crown Vic. It helps to have some sort of trim removal tool to pop off the plastic clips Ford used to hold the trunk trim up with. It works fine, didn't have to rewire it like some other folks said. Biggest issue I have (which is why it's 4 stars) is that it stays in your trunk until you need it. Like, loose in the trunk. The instructions say something with the gist of 'just sort of tuck it up out of the way someplace.' When you want to use it, you pull it out of the trunk, hook it up to the trailer, and just kind of close the trunk lid on the wires. It's not like the fit and finish on a mid-90s Ford makes this problematic (the wires don't get pinched at all), but it's just jank. They could have routed it through a body plug or something similar (albeit the wires are too short to go through any of the stock body plugs). I'll eventually properly mount this outside the car, but it's going to be a PITA since the connectors will have to be depinned, a hole will need to be drilled, and I'll need to route it all through a grommet that fits said hole. Totally doable, but it's going to take more than 10 minutes.

Easy to plug in, but was wired wrong.
Very simple to install as stated in the instructions, but as soon as I tested my lights my left signal started flashing fast as though a bulb was burned out, but it was also flashing the side marker light. Disconnected harness and all returned to normal. Broke out test lamp and found that the harness wires from this unit had been improperly placed. In the female connector that plugs to the vehicle wire harness, the Yellow (signal) wire is in the top right, with the Brown (marker lamp) wire in the bottom right. However on the male plug that goes to the taillight and sidemarker, the Yellow and Brown wires are reversed so that the Stop/Turn wire is trying to feed the side marker and the Brown side marker wire is trying to feed the Stop and Turn function. Might want to check that quality control at your Mexican plant and make sure the assembler isn't color blind...

Works
Arrived this evening, I was nervous to open anything from the mail at this point. However, I needed to go pick up my S-10, so I opened it up and found out the harness was real easy to install. I put this in my 96 Mercury Grand Marquis, it basically just snaps into the back of the tail light plugs on the both sides. Takes a minute, hooked up my car trailer, everything worked like it should. Picked up my truck, came back home, everything still works. Its a gud buy.

Curt 55326 wire harness
This device does not fit a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis LS as stated on the Amazon parts selector. It only works up to 1997. Curt harness #58044 is for later models and must be spliced in. This(55326) harness just plugs in and looks like a great way to put on a trailer plug. I am sure it works great on the correct model cars. Note for Curt Mfg. - Amazon does NOT download directly from Curt what parts fit each model, so check the Curt site first for compatibility.
