Gable vents work to provide ventilation, releasing stagnant air, preventing damage from humidity, and optimizing temperature control. Gable vents are particularly useful during the summer months when hot air rises and is trapped in the attic, where it can transfer itself down through the ceiling and back into the level below, decreasing the effectiveness of air conditioning systems A gable vent is located at the attic area, commonly on the exterior wall where the two planes of a sloping roof join, forming a triangle. The gable can be any symmetrical shape, but the triangle is among the most common. Other vent shapes include rectangles, steeples, circles, and octagons. Gable vents are fitted with horizontal ventilation slats called louvers. You can add a mesh screen to be placed behind the vent. This allows air to circulate while keeping outside elements where they belong. A gable mounted ventilator helps to push air through the louvers. The ventilator removes air from the attic through the use of turbines or fans. The gable ventilator commonly requires no carpentry, as it is mounted on the interior of the wall behind the gable, however, electrical installation is required.

Decent product if it arrives in one piece.

I ordered 2 to replace old non-standard sized attic windows. Received 1 in good condition, the other had 3 broken slats. Ordered 2 more to be safe. Second shipment received 1 in good condition, the 2nd one had 6 broken slats. Both shipments were banded & marked fragile. Packaging is insufficient in my opinion. Product is in a plastic bag inside a rather thin cardboard box, no corner guards or inner cardboard to provide protection during shipping.

Miss Leading Picture

Pay attention to the dimensions- the width is greater than the height. The picture is mid-leading also the slots are thin cut… barely usable as a functional vent. Lastly, it’s designed to be used in a location people are not able to get close to due to lack of detail.

Seems to be sturdy product but 3 of the 5 I ordered arrived totally destroyed.

Good looking louver

Before you order remember this product comes in functional and decorative, the decorative does not have slots for the air to pass through. I ordered one as a decorative treatment for a gable end and for that application it worked great. I can imagine if you had an old vent you wanted to cover or an old exhaust fan you no longer wished to use this would work perfectly. It is made of solid foam with a smooth exterior finish. I attached it to stucco with an adhesive similar to Liquid Nails which was workable for about 15 minutes once I had it where i wanted used tape to keep it from moving. Once finished I caulked around the edges between the stucco and louver and painted. Looks great. Customer is happy.

Almost perfect fit...

In my case I was replacing a vent that was clearly installed before the siding; which essentially made it impossible to entirely remove the old one (and install the same type) without removing the siding. This vent doesn't have the "nailers" along the edges so I cut out the old one, built up a new frame that I could screw into, and inserted this. Looks great. Time will tell how well it handles the weather.

First off, the vented product does not include an insect screen. You will need to purchase screening and staple it on the back otherwise your attic will be filled with bees. Additionally the total vented area is really small. It was almost a disservice installing these. I won't buy again.

Functional Gable Vent

These are light weight made of rigid foam. The openings between louvers are not very large, so the air flow is somewhat restricted. If you need a large air flow, you might want a louver with a larger opening between each louver. You must handle these louvers with care to avoid breaking them during installation. A couple of them were broken during shipping, but were promptly replaced by the vendor based on the pictures I sent of the shipping damage.
