Good idea for keeping the delivery guy honest and helps you to know when to order more fuel.
This meter appears to be well made and I have had good luck from Fill-Rite in the past. I am using it on a diesel fuel transfer tank. This fuel meter works with diesel fuel, gasolines, kerosene, mineral spirits, stoddard solvents and heptane. It measures in gallons and tenths. It has one master meter that keeps up with total gallons and second meter that is resettable by turn the wheel on the side. The master meter can be reset and this unit can be recalibrated if it ever gets off. It comes with instructions on how to do both. Mine came with about 30 gallons on the meter already but that was not a real problem for me. It also came with some teflon tape and the connectors but if you have a fuel filter then I recommend you have some extra elbows and connectors handy so that you can plumb around it and make it work. We keep a log book by ours and we write down the date, user, starting total, ending total and the total gallons pumped. If there is a skipped entry where the starting total does not match the last ending total we ask the person to circle there start number to bring our attention to it. It appears to be very accurate. It helps you to keep record on who has used the tank but also to help make sure that you are not getting shorted by the fuel deliverer which is very common in our area. The fact that you have a meter on your tank is a signal to the fuel deliverer that you are on top of things and encourages them to put in what they charge you for. With the cost of diesel fuel now it does not take long for the meter to pay for itself. It also helps you to know when it is time to order again and keeps you from sucking up that last gallon from your tank that has all of the water, rust, dirt and anything else that is sitting on the bottom of your tank in it. By the way, tilt your tank where your knozzle end is on the high side so you do not suck up the water, dirt, trash etc, at the bottom of your tank. Update 2019: 4 years and still going strong. Update 2021- still rolling

Not set to Zero
First one I ordered had 932 gallons on it when I opened the box, I ordered replacement and it came in at 24 gallons when I opened it. Both looked new and sealed so not sure what the deal is. Are they factory flow tested and then not reset? (cumulative can not be reset unless opened as another reviewer noted) I decided to keep it and I'll update review after installation and testing.

Great Quality
Fill-Rite makes quality products. We bought this mechanical meter and an electronic Fill-Rite meter for comparison and we decided to keep the electronic version because it is smaller and it fits better on our fuel tank given the space limitations that we have. We own a Fill-Rite fuel transfer pump and we have owned other Fill-Rite products in the past. Very high quality products. We are very happy with anything from the company.

Won't work unless you can fill your tank at full speed/blast.
Really not impressed. I'm using the same brand (Fill-Rite) 15 gpm pump for fueling our gasoline vehicles. As long as the pump is allowed to pump at full capacity it reads okay. Get close to being full and allowing the pump to only pump at 10-25% capacity the unit doesn't read any fuel going through it. We have a 2020 Rav4 - that has a known problem to everyone except Toyota getting the last 4+ gallons of fuel into the tank - and the last 4 or so gallons have to be put in slowly. This unit won't show more than 1/10 gallon after the nozzle clicks off from the first hold notch. I'm sure it would work fine on my tractors, excavators etc if I wanted to pump at not more than 15-20 gpm but I pump to those at 40+ so I'm not out there all day long. When I went to the Fill-Rite website (prior to purchasing) it stated this unit would work with pumps that had a maximum of 20 gpm so I ended up spending 3-4x more for this name brand unit so I could be confident in the displayed results. Guess the joke is on me (& I guess I still don't have a good way to budget for gasoline on my vehicles. Maybe one of those $25 made in China displays would be better - I would really hope not, but ....) Bottom line, unless you can fill up your vehicles at full blast, don't get this item - it won't display useful information.

So far so good.
Bought new fill rite pump with this meter on our tank two years ago. Meter stopped working 6 months ago. This is a replacement. Was as described, works as should. Hope this one lasts longer than original.
