Some peace of mind
First, I saved money by buying an open-box kit from Amazon Warehouse for $3.40. Inside this kit is just strips of tape and some instructions--it's nothing special so save your money and buy a "used" kit. I only did 1 sample in the part of the house I was most certain was moldy, so that was $15. Finally, instructions claim you need to use 8 stamps if you use an envelope to mail it in, which is unnecessary. I placed it in a regular letter envelope with 2 stamps and it worked fine. The end result is a nifty long report explaining the types of mold found. Some common mold types were found at low levels, but nothing of concern. So I ended up spending less than $20 total and it was worth it.

Recommending This Product 100%
After receiving my First Alert MT1 Mold Kit I following the instructions and used only 5 of the 9 testing strips that came in the kit. I pressed them firmly down on the areas that I believe have mold issues, then placed them in the small plastic snap containers for each one. Each sample costs $15 to have tested, and from there you can pay extra for further testing if you choose. I mailed off the samples in the envelope provided. It cost me under $4.00 (sent standard mail). I checked the boxes on the slip to get notifications via text, and my results via email. I received a text that my results were received on January 2nd. I sent the kit only 5 days prior, so that was good timing. And over New Year's. Today is January the 8th and I received the email I requested with my test results. I printed them out as they are very detailed. I got the answers that I was looking for, and quickly too! I would recommend this product, and give the process 5 stars. If you feel you might have mold issues get the place tested, it could mean health issues for you and your pets. Thanks, First Alert MT1!!

Additional cost for Mold testing per sample
Make sure to read that you will need to pay an additional $15. for each site you want tested, which I don’t remember reading when I ordered kit. The mold sample will tell what kind of mold and the quantity. I just opened this to read through instructions and found that info. It is also an additional $15. if you want an expanded profile it will cost an additional $15., to identify pollen, dust mites, fibers and skin cells. (That comment makes my skin itch). On the page to order it talked about a $10. fee for a “Lab analysis for bulk sample is $10” which has no explanation and nothing in the test instructions stating anything other than the $15., fee/or the additional $15. for the expanded reading. It says it will take only 5-7 days for results.

Not what I expected but still good product
Don't know if this was negligence on my part or just poor attention to detail...but I thought I would be able to detect mold directly with this kit. I didn't know you have to submit the sample to a lab to get analyzed. And yes its extra money obviously. $15/sample that you send. But I hear the lab results are solid and will inform you what kind of mold you got going on.

Expensive to actually use
Couldn't find these locally and was happy to find them on Amazon right up until I saw they were not the old style that let you do your own test and you have to pay $10 for EACH of the "up to 9" test locations you can do. That works out to $90 if you want to test 9 locations! To be fair I did see that in the description but it didn't fully register until I got it in my hands.

Good, but hidden(ish) cost
It is unclear from the product description, but for each sample you send to the lab, there is a $15 fee payable to the lab. Worth It, but an extra cost that I was not prepared for.

No manual or instructions. Mold and Radon kits grouped in same listing.
Two problems: 1. Amazon groups together the mold detection kit and radon kit in the same listing, so it is extremely confusing to find reviews or answered questions on the specific kit you purchased. If you search either by “mold” you will get a lot of people asking questions about the mold kit and it’s lack of instructions, and people confusedly answering that the kit is for radon. Two kits, same listing, very confusing. 2. I purchased the mold kit and I was in a hurry. Saw the First Alert brand and took a gamble. I should have read the reviews, or at least tried (see problem 1), before I purchased the kit. The listing details claim the kit includes an instruction manual. Mine did not. Just some test strips, a plastic bags and a return envelope. No idea how to collect the mold or what personal info I should give them in order to receive the results. It looks like from the questions, others have had the same issue.
