This is NOT for a router!
This bit is awesome! It will do exactly what it says it will do but it does NOT go on a router. I found out the hard way when it spun itself off my router and embedded itself in my router table safety fence. My router was repaired and is back in business but required a major repair including a new 1/2" collet. DO NOT USE THIS BIT ON A ROUTER. This bit is designed to be used in a Shaper. Huh? I said when a professional wood worker said after almost dying laughing that I almost died. He was glad I didn't die but floored by my stupidity. Freud, not all of us are professionals. We need to be told certain things. Like for one, this bit is for a Shaper! Not a Router. A Shaper is a much bigger version of the router. It's much more powerful and can handle larger bit for making awesome molding and other terrific things. I have put this bit aside until I can add a Shaper to my shop. Save your money and likely your life, don't buy this unless you plan on using it for a Shaper. Also, consult a professional when it doubt.

Freud makes excellent tools
This bit is the one I was looking for, being the industry standard #390. I needed something like this in order to duplicate the paint grade version to stain grade hardwoods. I am using it on a Shop Fox 2 HP shaper, which handles it fine. Be forewarned that with the big cuts it makes that you should take 4-5 passes on hardwoods and 2-3 passes on softwoods. It is especially important when approacing the last 1-2 passes to only take 1/8" to 1/16" deep cuts since it is cutting the entire profile. This will avoid blowouts and overloading the shaper, especially on hardwoods. Also, it is a good idea to make a guide to restrict the workpiece from moving in any direction except transversely across the bit to avoid uneven and wavy cuts. For finish work, I typically use Freud carbide blades. They last a long time and cut cleanly. Additonally, Amazon has one of the best prices.

Freud 99-475 Chair Rail Router Bit
This bit worked great for me. You need to make several shallow passes but it comes out beautiful. I was able to match my chair rail to my wainscoting. I wanted everything to have the same wood grain as it is all stained. I definitely recommend. this router bit. I am very satisfied.

Solid Router Bit!
Several weeks back, I purchased the Freud 99-475 Chair Rail Router Bit. I am new to heavy routing, but I am an old shoe when it comes to woodworking, construction, and working around the home. I will admit it took some getting used to and I had to go online for a few tips and pointers regarding routing in general, but this was no fault of the bit. I am using the bit with a Bosch RouterBosch 1617EVSPK 12 Amp 2-1/4-Horsepower Plunge and Fixed Base Variable Speed Router Kit with 1/4-Inch and 1/2-Inch Collets (great router by the way) mounted in the Bosch Router TableBOSCH RA1181 Benchtop Router Table . The 1/2 inch shank is solid and the bit itself is great. It was very sharp when received. My only warning to you is that this bit makes extremely deep cuts, so (1) make sure (if you are using a table top router table) that your router and table are both securely fastened, (2) don't try to take the full cut all at once (make a shallow cut and keep increasing the depth through several passes), (3) use a variable speed router so you can adjust the bit speed, (4) keep the bit sharpened if used frequently, and (5) do your research if you are new to this sort of thing. There are many good hints and tips from the pro's on the Internet. Above all, please be careful! If you have not used a large bit like this before, you may be in for an awakening.
