The Genie SilentMax 1200 garage door opener is the perfect option if your garage is attached to your home. This model comes with a 140V DC motor that is lighter in weight and provides ultra-quiet and smooth operation, so that your family will not be disturbed by a noisy garage door opener. The soft start and stop feature of the motor offers smooth garage door travel, an improvement over AC motors. It’s powerful enough for almost any residential garage door, up to 7 feet in height (or 8 feet with an extension kit sold separately). The SilentMax offers increased opening speeds, up to 9 inches per second, yet still has safety features for your peace of mind. The Safe-T-Beam system helps prevent accidents via an invisible infrared beam across the door opening, which reverses the door if an object crosses the beam of LED light. The beams are enhanced with diagnostic technology to alert you if a malfunction occurs. Even the lighting system in the SilentMax is geared toward your safety: the 2 Bulb Bright Lighting System has space for 2 100-watt bulbs (not included) and an innovative power head design that places the lighting toward the back of the garage where you need it most. The SilentMax also features a built in motion detector that will automatically turn the overhead lights on for added convenience and security! Equipped with Intellicode Security technology, the SilentMax 1200 provides extra safety by preventing unauthorized access to your garage. Intellicode is a rolling code technology that automatically changes the access code on each door activation. The opener is fast and easy to install, with a premium reinforced low profile c-channel rail that presents a clean design to help protect against dirt and debris buildup. Flush-mounting capability allows for low headroom applications and requires no additional hardware for assembly. The Genie SilentMax 1200 comes with a Limited Lifetime Motor and Gearbox Warranty, and accessories include two pre-programmed 3-button remotes, a Wireless Keyless Keypad and a Multi-Function Wall Console (Control Panel) with vacation lock and light control button. Genie’s SmartSet programming makes setup for the opener fast and easy, with the simple push of a button. Due to California Senate Bill No. 969, as of 01 July 2019 all garage door openers, sold to or installed at any residence in California, must have a battery backup system included. Please search for Genie battery backup to find one that is in compliance with this law.

Very quiet. Happy overall.
After install was completed, I have no complains. It works well and is surprisingly quiet. Runs very smooth. The only issue was that the rail wasn't assembled in the way the directions assumed it was. We had to piece it together using the vague pictures to get it to the point where we could start at step 1. After that it was easy install.

Easiest install ever.
Purchased this unit to replace an existing unit that had ran its course. This product comes with a color coded map of instillation. Unit is extremely easy to install. Furthermore, to say it is quiet is an understatement, all you can hear is the wheels/casters of the garage door. Great product, motor is strong. This product was definitely an upgrade for my home.

Good instructions, just use assembly poster.
Replaced a model 1000 chaindrive that was destroyed in power outage. Used this model 1200 and added surge protector. For me it was as simple as assembling head unit and track, then 1 pin and 2 bolts, replace wall switch, done. Quiet, motion light works great. Good value.

The absolutely quietest unit, ever.!
This was a newer replacement for a similar model the failed during a lightning-storm, plus 10 or more years or service. It is the absolutely quietest opener I have ever experienced. Belt drive is the best.

Great Product!
I purchased two of these. Everything you need (except tools) to install is in the box. Instruction are well done. This model is the best Genie product that I have installed to date.

Directly replaces the 1000 model 4032
I'm a Certified Electronics Technician and was in the Access Control industry for my last job before retiring. On a new install / NO Opener installed before: Install each photo sensor PER Instructions. Don't like the wire hardware so I used a roll of 3-M ALUMINUM AC Duct tape. TAPE each wire with a 1 inch square of tape to wall/wood every 12-18 inches. Then to the header ABOVE where the garage door closes. Bring both wires to the center and use tie wraps and tape at the center. Let wire hang until opener is installed. Pre-assemble everything on a table or the floor. Leave the WHITE piece of foam to cover the motion sensor until ready to install. Place a hand towel on the ground to protect the operator cabinet. Put the whole unit together per instructions. 6ft ladder needed. WITH garage door closed, place ladder under where the Head Unit will connect to suspension straps. NOW lift entire unit placing the metal end onto the top of DOOR and the Controller on top of the ladder. For my install I skipped 2 strap holes and attached the controller in the third hole. This placed the bar, when LEVELLED about 1 1/2 inches above Springs. Raise up the bar and using a level mark both holes and pre-drill the 2 holes with a bit just a little smaller than the inside diameter of the shaft threads. That wood is pressure treated OAK and is hard. That cotter pin has failed twice so I bent a nail the third time. Run the wires ABOVE and BEHIND the spring bar and using the tape attach the wires to the RIGHT side facing out. Tape every 8-12 inches. Wires drop through a feed-through hole on top. Do the same for the pushbutton wire. Make connections per Instructions. Tie Wrap extra wire above opener. Connect Opener Arm assembly. Apply Power. Set Stops FIRST. Open and Close using wall keypad TWICE. Both remotes supplied already programmed and can add more. We have 5. Program Exterior keypad. All Done. Replacing the Silentmax 1000: If Belt OK: Remove Power, replace Interior wall Pushbutton. NOTE: When Lowering Unit remove cotter pin on opener arm attached to door, and may need to give slack for sensor wires. Using 6 foot ladder remove 2 strap bolts. remove 4 hex screws on top. Remove Entire Controller. Attach NEW Control Head. Program Stops and Exterior wall remote. DONE.

Quiet and fast
After my old Genie screw type garage door opener failed after 10 years I decided to replace it with another Genie product. Even with the mixed reviews here I decided to purchase the Genie SilentMax 1200. After reviewing the enclosed instructions and measuring my garage door, 7' tall, I found that I did NOT need to purchase the extension kit. However one of the two garage door opener fobs was missing from the packaging. I placed a call to the supplied Genie support number on a Saturday morning and was able to have a replacement fob mailed to me in just a few minutes. I'm not sure when other reviewers have called Genie's support number but I did not have to wait in a calling queue and the support assistant was polite and friendly. Installation was simple and the directions were concise and easy to follow. The enclosed installation poster has a color coded bag displayed next to each step that holds the required bolts/nuts, if fasteners are required for that step, so don't dump them out into one big pile! I was able to remove my old unit and install the new unit in just over 2 hours. HINT: If you are replacing an existing garage door opener make sure that you flag the wiring to mark which component it runs too before removing it. The prior owner of my home did not save the instructions of the old unit so I had to trace the lines (in my case the lines were piecemeal telephone lines with segments of solid two wire lines combined) to their appropriate components. Although the installation instructions state that one or two of the steps require two people I was able to do it by myself with the help of two ladders (so if you are not handy then don't try those steps alone). I spent another hour setting up the garage door control panel, the safety-beam devices, the key fobs and the wireless entry; to be fair much of this last hour was spent fixing the prior wiring that I inherited with the house. The unit opens/closes my garage door quickly and quietly. The only sounds I hear when opening/closing the garage door are the sound of the garage door creaking and the belt running. It is much faster than the old unit it replaced. The motion sensor light control is a great addition and is very useful when I am carrying something through my garage with my hands full. The new unit does not have the extensive range for fob commands to open/close the door of the unit that it replaced but I have no issues with this. I have found that the fobs work roughly 20 feet away. The only negative I have with the new unit is that the wireless entry device allows you to open/close the garage door for about 30 seconds after entering the code once. I would rather have to enter the code each time but that is a minor issue. Overall the SilentMax 1200 is great and exceed my initial expectations after reading the mixed reviews. It was easy to install and with the faster speed and lack of noise compared to the unit it replaced I would recommend it to anyone.

Surprised by how quiet door opener... wiring connections could be better
A little tricky to install. But if you've installed door openers before, you know its gonna take a few hours. Motor was very quiet, much better than I thought. Wiring connections need to be improved, very finicky on the main controller device... Else I would have provided a 5 star.

Have the 1800 number handy or the Youtube video loaded.
Love the opener when it finally was finished over a two day period. It work far better than the one next to it that is 5 years old now. The instructions are large but some of the crucial steps are very vague, like the programing up and down travel. They are two separate programs not one. You have to hold the program buttons for at least 20 to 25 seconds before there is movement. The help line is great however they do close at 5pm and no Sundays.

The unit works great. A lot quieter than my old one.
it was easy to install but the programming was a little difficult. I phoned the given toll free number and and it was resolved very quickly.
