Challenging but fun

Riverstones provide great indoor fun indoors for 2.5 year olds during winter. Helps their balance to improve. However, parents might need to encourage and perhaps hold child's hand during early days. Perfection and perfect balance at the beginning is less important than trying and laughing. Mom & Dad can try too.

Best Toy for a Toddler!

My son loves these. He can use them to count, tell colors, or to build an obstacle course in the living room. So much fun and they can be packed away into a small size inside of each other. Great gift idea.

???? Very Pleased with Purchase

This review is of the Gonge Riverstones. Riverstones are sold in a set of 6. They are made of a very hard, brightly colored and durable plastic. The underside is hollow which allows for the stones to be nested together for storage (much like one nests mixing bowls together). Being hollow does not effect the sturdiness or durability of this product. The underside of the riverstones has a non-slip rubber grip. We have used the stones on laminate flooring, carpet, grass, cement, and wood chips. None of the riverstones have ever shifted from the position that they were set. However, I would suggest that you be aware that uneven surfaces- such as the wood chips I mentioned - would effect the sturdiness and safety of the item. These were purchased for a special needs 3 year old to use indoors for practice with balance and color identification. Our children and neighbor friends -aged 3 thru13- also use these. They have a variety of ways to play with them: scattering them, lining them up, placing them in a circle, and making an obstacle course with them. I feel they encourage both structured and imaginative play. They have never scuffed or damaged any of our various flooring in any way. We also use these outside in the same manner that we use them indoors. The kids have used these for games such as tag (the stones are safe bases) and as parts of obstacle courses they create. The stones have endured the heat of summer and occasional rainstorms without being damaged. I do not know how much these would fade with continued exposure to the elements. I would recommend that, if you want to mantain their vibrancy, they be stored out of the elements when not in use. The picture I have included is to show the varying sizes of the stones. Please note that only the 6 stones with the arrows pointing at them are included with this purchase. The others that are shown here are Gonge Hilltops which can be purchased separately (which, by the way, I also recommend). I have never used the Riverstones independent of the Hilltops, nor have any of my children. I feel younger kids would be completely content with having only the Riverstones, but older children would probably not find as much enjoyment without having the addition of the larger hilltops.

Wonderful for Physical Development - So Many Options!

I was hesitant to pay this much money for what appears to be a very simple "toy" for my toddler, but I have not regretted this purchase at all. My daughter (2.5 years old) and her cousin (same age) have had a blast walking on these river stones. My daughter has always been a bit behind in terms of physical development and coordination, so when these first arrived, she just walked on a stone with one foot and put her other foot on the carpet. However, she has made a lot of progress in the last month, and now often links 3-4 of the "stones" together. Her cousin, on the other hand, has been a pro since day one, so we challenge him by moving the stones further apart (so he can jump a little bit) and putting other objects (pillows, large blocks) in the path to make it longer. It is nice that these stack together so well so we could take them to relatives' houses or on trips if need be. I can see that it would be nice to have more (or to have the larger "Hilltops" pieces), but for now, we are very happy with the flexibility of this set. I'm going to recommend these to our local ECFE program, too! Note: I know the weight limit is listed at 150lbs, but my husband (180lbs.) has spent a fair bit of time on these as well, and they are just fine! :)

LOVE these! Like seriously love them

LOVE these! Like seriously love them! And so does my toddler :) I bought these since I have noticed my toddler is a bit "clumsy" and tends to trip a lot. Also due to how cold it has been we haven't had any outside play to burn off energy. Already I can see an improvement in her being able to catch herself better when it looks like she is about to fall. I would like to emphasize she has no medical issues and this seems mostly due to a lacking core so this is one item out of a few that we purchased to help strengthen those muscles. These also stack very well so when they are not in use they don't take up much space. They do have a rubber trim around the whole edge so they don't slip or move on laminate or tile flooring. The colors are bright and eye catching especially to a 2.5 yr old. They feel like they are quite sturdy and will be long lasting even with frequent/regular use. I did see where another person suggested flipping them over and tossing bean bags in them and we are definitely going to try that. Any toy than can serve multiple functions for multiple children is awesome in my opinion. I have a 10 month old who has been trying to crawl over these so I know he will also enjoy them when he is walking.

15464987443544354 DIFFERENT USES!!!!! AND MILLIONS OF HOURS OF FUN!

The stones are fabulous! You and your kids' minds are the limit to what to do with them because they present remarkable opportunity to expand imagination and flex body to be perfectly balanced. Great practice for kids and even adults to make their bodies confident in the presence of challenging balance skills and routines. THE SET IS FABULUOS. We used it a lot over the years, kids love to use it, it is something that lets kids spend time with purpose. Anything that takes them away of the screen and does something good is great if you ask me but this is exceptionally fabulous set in every possible way.

A MUST have item for any age!

Got these for my kids for Christmas..ages 1.5 & 3.5 and we just bought another set. They are AMAZING.. sturdy enough for me to use with them as well!! Imaginations run wild with these.. obstacle courses, hot lava and racing games...endless amounts of FUN. They still look brand new with tons of use this far! Don't hesitate on these!!!!

Fantastic for gross motor improvement

Really liked these and my children had great fun on them. I bought for my daughter's Montessori preschool and my children had tried them out over the weekend, but my Y1 son was very sorry to see them go! I could see how both of them were having to fine tune their gross motor movements to traverse them without falling; brilliant for balance and the best thing about them is that they are very easy for the children to incorporate into play. This product would be particularly helpful for children who don't like taking physical risks, but who could do with strengthening their core and becoming more aware of balance, including how to move and where to tread to keep safe. The product itself is very well made; grippy plastic and strong. Mine was also delivered just in the box with the delivery notes stuck on the outside, but this wasn't so much of an issue for me. Just putting the box in a plastic bag would help - if you wanted to give as a gift you can't really get the delivery notes off without the pictures on the box tearing off. I agree that after a while you might want another set - or perhaps shell out more for the hilltops and combine?

A good solid purchase

We knew what we were buying as they have these at my granddaughters nursery and she was thrilled to have her own. They have been added to her obstacle course in the garden and give her great fun.

Nice set

This is a nice set but quite expensive although it’s good quality and well made. My 18 months old toddler played with it a little but not much. I’m hoping she’ll get more use of it as the price was rather steep
