PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Stearman PT-17 has a 28" wingspan. The majority of U.S. pilots of World War 2 received their primary flight training in the famous Stearman Trainer. This excellent 2-place biplane was known as the PT-17 when delivered to Army flight training centers. The Navy designations were N2S-1 and N2S-4. Nearly 3,000 were built in the 1940-43 period and, in the post war era and up to modern times, the Stearman Trainer has been successfully used as a stunt plane and crop duster. • Series 800 kits are truly model building worthy of the time and effort and contain the best quality materials and instructions • Designed for U-Control or rubber powered free flight • Guillow's - your one source for model plane kits since 1926 FROM THE MANUFACTURER Guillow's is the recognized leader in quality scale balsa model airplane kits. Be patient, follow directions closely
The balsa parts are fairly easy to work with. The plastic parts are brittle and hard to work with. The tissue takes a fair amount of time to get it right

Rubber band Flying model Stearman PT-17
Kit contains full size plans, balsa sheets are plainly marked and die cut, instructions are easy to follow. This particular kit does not have the parts included for making it a U-Control. It is for making a free-flight rubber band flying model. Needed is hobby knife to separate balsa and plastic parts, glue to secure balsa parts and attach paper covering and plastic glue for assembling pilot and motor pieces and plastic paints and various acrylic paints. A very worthwhile kit to build and fly.

Poorly Stamped, NOT laser cut, thin balsa!
Maybe this is the norm for this company, and I am too new to be able to accept and deal with it, but I am disappointed! The small thin parts needed EXTREME care to break out at all, and all the parts had poorly defined edges after removal. I was in no hurry, and tried to exercise great care, but the results were not acceptable. After making repairs and cleaning up the parts, it was still obvious that the end result of building this model was going to be a "just OK" model . . . but that is not what I had hoped for from this company!

Don't buy this kit, unless you have lots of experience building balsa, wood kits.
The parts stamping are of a poor quality. They are hard to cut out, and need lots of sanding. It looks like it's going to turn out OK but there's going to be a lot of extra work to make it look nice, and fly. Iv'e built a couple Guillows kits back in the 70's as control line planes. Back then they where stamped a lot better. They flew nice then. I'm going RC with this one, we'll see what happens. It's not worth 50 bucks. Maybe $25 to $30. Not exactly what I expected from Guillow.

Dont pick this as your first stick n tissue
Good kit. Dont let the smashed stamped kit scare you. Only complaint i have is that the instructions are not very well written. Looks great as a static!
