Took a few weeks but my dogs use it now
I have two pit bulls and one is whiny and seems to always want to go out but then would just whine and “talk back” which if you have had a blue nosed grey pit bull you know the Pterodactyl screech similar to husky’s talking I’m referring to. He’s a rescue so we didn’t understand why he would just argue and want in and out and seemed like no matter what we did he wasn’t happy. We got him used to the buttons and he will still argue with you but if you go stand by the button he will press it. Now is this better than him having a meltdown? Yes. Am I still doing way too much by having to go stand by a button for him to decide. Probably but my migraine prone head is thankful for the less noise in the house. Mostly only got the potty button to work. We have another dog who thinks she’s too good for it but she will go and the other dog will hit it for her. So long story short. It works. My dogs just like to be difficult but I do feel like I at least aren’t clueless with why he’s having a meltdown now and he goes less often and is quicker to hit the button so it’s brought a lot of peace to the house at least. Really depends on your pup

Not What I Would Call A Starter Kit
I received 2 sets of the Hunger for Words Starter Set today. Received same day and on sale! My dog was so excited as I was opening the package because he knew they were for him. He was very curious and wanted to play right away as he had 2 similar buttons in the past and recognized what they were! Ok, so there are no batteries, luckily I had 16 AAA batteries stocked up from the recent holidays. Here is where my frustration begins. This button requires a very small Phillips head screwdriver which I did not have, after looking all over the house, resorting to try to use a small pointed knife, paperclip, etc. I realized I had to go out and buy one :( Moment ruined! Not what I would call a starter set at all, as it also does not come with any stickers to label the buttons! I am left to concoct some ugly taped on piece of paper, or go out again and pay for some blank labels. How hard would it be to include these 2 items when you're charging $30 per set? Other than these 2 issues, the recording sounds pretty clear on wood floor, not so much on carpet, and the buttons seem sturdy, easy to push. I can already see how the little record button on the side will be activated as my dog (Great Dane) accidentally hits it when pressing the button and then having to re-record. I bought the optional button mats (2) for an extra $30 and hope they don't muffle the sound too badly and protect the record button from being accidentally hit a bit better. I took off 2 stars for the frustration with the "non-starter kit" and ease of accidental activation of record button.

Love these
I had bought these for my Australian Shepard mix. It took me a couple months to train him but he uses them. I have one that says play, outside, and treat. The fourth one did break before I even got to use it, but it’s okay. He loves these and knows when he uses then he gets a treat. I love when he needs something he hits the button and now knows we can understand each other so much better. I love these!

Does what it's supposed to.
As someone people mentioned, the recording can be a little fuzzy, so just make sure to enunciate in a quiet room. Otherwise it works as described. The biggest pain point is that we put it on the floor, and sometimes when he slaps it, it pushes it against the wall and accidentally hits the reset button. I know we can get the mats to keep it still, but still just something to flag.

Already working
We are loving these buttons already! It hasnt been a full 24 hours since we opened the buttons and my pup already caught on! We started with "play" (my dog's favorite activity) and after about 20+ tries and demos from me on how to press the button, my pup is using it!!! I can't believe how easily and quickly she caught on! The only issue I have is that I thought these came with labels or something to write on the button so I used my own.

Adorable
My dog learned quickly and turned into a monster. Gave one to a new owner and the pup tried to eat it.

Poor Clarity
I've used the original FP buttons for a while with my dog, with great success. However, once situated in the hex, the sound quality is greatly diminished. I wanted to try these buttons for a different experience. They are larger and are reported not to be muffled by their foam board. Well, they're not, but the overall quality of recording is very poor. I thought maybe it was just one button, but all of them are that way. The sound is easily audible in comparision with the FP originals, but the sharpness and clarity of the playback just isn't there. That's too bad, because these are a better fit for my dog's paws. In all I'm not satisfied with the sound quality of these buttons. If they were more clear they would be our go-to, paws down. Will be returning them.

Here's a tip that saved time...
Really enjoyed the book, and now we've just started with the buttons. We figured out how to teach our 8 month old pup to press the button for food in about 15 minutes. If your dog already knows shake-a-paw, you can do it too! - Put the button in your hand and get the dog to shake a paw. They will accidentally press the button. Give them loads of kibble! - Repeat a few times - Move the button to the floor and ask for shake a paw again, with your hand over the button. Move your hand out of the way when they go to give you high five on the floor so they will accidentally press the button while it's on the floor. Give them abundant kibble again! - Repeat a few times. - She had mostly figured it out by now, and would press the button on her own for kibble. - Then we moved the button closer to the kibble bowl and started giving the kibble in the bowl. That's pretty much it! We're excited to try the same method to train 'outside'. :)

You can teach an old dog new tricks
The media could not be loaded. Having watched great videos of dogs on Instagram and Facebook communicating with their owners I thought I’d give it a go. Just started with one. Took approx three weeks before my 11 year old lab mastered how to ask for a treat. She now has a second button by her water bowl.

Good product, but needs improvement
First of all they are really easy to use and our dog has gotten the hang of them very quickly - it's useful to have an audio indicator of when he wants something. The audio quality isn't fantastic, but if you speak clearly and loudly away from the mic it picks up a sound with good enough quality to make out the word. The main problem we have is that they are not at all waterproof, and the durability is not great. Our dog tends to hold a bit of water in his mouth after drinking and if he goes over to press a button and it gets wet it suddenly starts playing the sound over and over and resetting the recording. Clearly, there is no protection from any liquid on the circuit-board right under the button so the water gets down the sides and shorts it. Luckily, it's easy enough to take apart and dry/repair. Admittedly, the advert doesn't say they are waterproof so it's just an unfortunate scenario. But it's worth mentioning in case other people could have the same issue! TLDR; Great, simple devices which we and the dog love. Could do with some small durability improvements.
