Small, but cute & fun!
I wasn’t looking for a giant water mat especially since I wanted to see if my baby would like it first. This is a super cute water mat & I haven’t had any issues. The smell is pretty strong when you get it out of the box, but I let it air out on my porch for a few hours & it was fine after that! I haven’t had any water leaks, air problems, or any difficulties at that. I did add vinegar bc of what I read - to prevent molding I guess, so we will see!

Took a chance...Didn't go well...
I've been looking for a product like this for a while now for my daughter. So when I stumbled upon this product, I was thrilled! Of course, after I checked out the reviews, I was reticient to buy the product, as half of the reviews were favorable and half were not. Well, I got the package and have to say I am one of the unsatified customers. The pad leaks out of the valve no matter how tightly closed it is. Granted it is not much, but as the floor of my daughter's room is carpet, I don't want to have wet carpet every time she plays with this toy. I have sent my product back to Amazon for a replacement, so hopefully I will be able to edit my review later more favorably. Below are the pros and cons: Pros: 1. Nice size mat. Not very big, but big enough for an infant to play on. It would fit easily on a tummy time mat or play gym mat, for size reference. I had read some reviews that said it was very small, but it was about what I was expecting. 2. Vivid colors. Cute illustrations on the mat and colorful plastic "fish" (mine were fish, a sailboat and a whale I believe) that move easily when filled with water. 3. Functionality. Does what it says it does. When filled, it is easy for infant to bat the toys around in the water. 4. Ease of use. Outer ring blows up with traditional valve. Inner ring has a slit that you can hold open to fill with either a hose or a sink. I used the kitchen sink. When I had enough water, I pushed out the excess air so that the plastic toys would float better in the water. Pretty user friendly. I did not have any trouble filling it unlike some of the other reviewers. Cons: 1. LEAKS! Unfortunately, this ruined the toy for me. I cannot have the toy leaking all over my daughter's room! No matter how tightly the water valve is sealed, the product leaks when pressure is applied to it (like a baby playing with it!) or when you pick it up. I could probably have fixed it with duct tape or something similar, but don't feel like paying good money to have to jerry rig something myself. Sent it right back to Amazon. Hopefully, my replacement will not leak, like another reviewer mentioned. Summary: Great concept, and product itself is nice. If the valve was functional, I would give it five stars. As it is, I would give it zero if I could as it is unusable in its current condition. If you really want the toy and are willing to take the chance, it's only $10. But if you are unwilling to return the product or wait for an exchange, I'd say skip this product altogether. I'm still holding out hope that my replacement will work as specified. Update: Received a new one and it does not leak. My daughter enjoys it.

Pretty good, but don't leave child unattended.
I got this for my 5 month old and he loves it...a little too much I think. He is at that age where he wants to put everything in his mouth and he aims for the plastic fish floating inside and just goes bobbing for them. With his drool, he makes a pretty good seal against the plastic and I spend most of the time picking his face off of it to make sure that he can still breathe. Because I do this, he gets frustrated at me. He's almost sitting up now, so i try and prop him up with his feet on the mat so he can grab and kick at it. This will get the attention of children, but you just have to be careful with how they interact with it, and never leave a child unattended with it. But it has helped with tummy time quite a bit, as my child wasn't good at doing his tummy time, and he would gladly play and push up on this for 10-15 minutes. Also, it is a bit smaller than I imagined, but it is big enough for it's purpose, so I can't complain too much. FILLING INSTRUCTIONS: Please read some of the other comments here about filling (no need to submerge) from the tap or a hose, it's easy once you know how to do it, but there are no instructions that come with the item. Update: After 3 months of use, the outer ring that is filled with air obtained a leak somehow and deflated. My 8 month old boy still loved this toy, but started to get a bit rough with it which makes me not surprised by the leak. I decided to cut open the toy and dispose of it, but keeping the inner plastic toys for my son to play with, which he enjoys them very much. This toy isn't likely going to last you more than a couple of months but if you are having trouble with tummy time, this is a good tool to help with that issue.

Follow these instructions for filling...
When you take this item out of its box and unfold it, you see 2 separate valves (one very large valve and one standard inflating valve). The standard valve allows you to blow air into the border of the mat - that most people can figure out. The large valve is the way in for water filling. Sounds easy enough... until you notice that this valve is 'blocked' - in other words, where you expect a big, fat opening, there is very thick plastic. Here's the part that's easy to miss: the opening to this valve is 'blocked' with a very shallow 'cup' that has an inch long slit at its bottom/inner seam, on the side opposite from where the valve cover attaches. When you squeeze this shallow 'cup' in at the sides, that slit opens into a conveniently sized access point for filling water from a tap. Don't forget to work out the folds and kinks in the mat (especially near where the fill valve is) to allow water to flow smoothly into the mat cavity. And one more thing: When you are done filling with water, some suggest adding a few drops of non-chlorine bleach. Then hold the mat by the filling valve (so that the valve is the highest point) gently resting the mat in a sink. Then, gently squeeze out as much excess air as you can before closing the valve. Different people might prefer different water fill levels. I filled it such that as I held the filled mat by the water filling valve and let the filled cavity hang, it appeared just over half full. That level seemed to work well for my daughter. We just received and filled the mat today and my daughter, who is a very late crawler and has strongly resisted tummy time, spent over 30 minutes supporting her upper body with her arms and playing with the mat. I am very pleased with the purchase and believe I have found the key to giving my daughter the incentive she needs to build those weight supporting muscles.
