Gfci protection is vital to ensure electrical safety in both residential and commercial settings. A power interruption due to a ground fault provides important protection to people but can shut down freezers, sump pumps and other necessary equipment if left undetected. Often, however, GFCIs in garages, basements or large commercial kitchens may be located in an out-of-the-way place such as a back corner or storage area making daily visual checks for tripping unlikely. The new SmartlockPro® slim self-test GFCI with audible alert is the smart solution. When a condition exists causing the SmartlockPro slim self-test GFCI with audible alert to trip, users will be alerted by the sounding of an audible alarm. This audible alert indicates that power has been disconnected from loads plugged into or fed from the GFCI so users can immediately assess the reason and reset the device. Adding to the list of smart features, the SmartlockPro slim self-test GFCI with audible alert tests itself even if you forget. Designed to meet the latest UL standard for auto-monitoring (self-test), the device periodically conducts an automatic internal test to confirm that it can respond to a ground fault. The self-test GFCI with audible alert offers all the outstanding benefits you expect from SmartlockPro products. With the slimmest profile on the market, the device allows for fast and easy installation, while Leviton's patented reset lockout mechanism prevents reset of the GFCI if it is not wired or operating correctly. The SmartlockPro self-test GFCI is the smart choice in ground fault circuit Interrupter protection.

Patented lockout action prevents reset if GFCI is damaged and cannot respond to a ground fault. Audible alarm sounds when the GFCI trips, providing an alert that power has been disconnected from load(s) plugged into or fed from the GFCI. Status indicator light shows power and protection status as well as indication of line/load reversal. Provides continuous ground fault protection - detects and trips on actual ground fault even when self-test is being conducted. For an added layer of protection, the GFCI regularly conducts an automatic internal test to confirm that it can respond to a ground fault.

Cured my Chest Freezer Problems
If you have a chest freezer plugged into a GFCI circuit, you need this plug. I have tried 4 other GFCIs in the last year trying to find one that would not trip all the time with my chest freezer plugged in. This plug was the solution to my problem. I initially got it because of the audible alarm when it trips. I thought at least i would know the freezer was off due to the alarm and i could reset the circuit every few weeks when it happened. To my surprise it has only tripped once since i installed it and that was due to an extension cord plugged in and left outside in the rain so it was a legitimate trip. I have been very pleased. One warning to anyone using this to replace an existing GFCI: the line and load on this were opposite from the previous GFCI. I should have looked at it closely before I installed it but i was in a hurry and just swapped it into place of the old receptacle and reconnected the wires to the same terminals. So pay attention when you connect it; don't be a lazy idiot like me.

Good for my Freezer in the Laundry Room
I have a freezer in the laundry room. It's within a few feet of the washer and sink so, when you're that close to water, you need a GFCI protected circuit where I live. A few years ago, I had gotten a couple of deer during our hunting season. We lost power and the old GFCI outlet in there didn't recover from the outage. We used to have an automatic nightlight plugged into it but I guess we got too comfortable and we forgot to check it after that outage. Well, a week went by before we noticed the smell of rotting meat. Needless to say, I felt horrible as I was throwing two deer worth of meat into the trash! Those animals died needlessly, in my mind... I picked up one of these GFCI outlets that has an alarm. When we lose power, this thing will sound an alarm when we get power back and it trips the outlet. We've only had the power come back on and trip the outlet once but, in my mind, it was worth it not to have to throw out more meat. I've since gotten them for my two fridges so I can be sure my harvests don't die needlessly.

Not very loud...
I finally installed this GFCI. I have my spare refrigerator and freezer in my garage plugged into it. I bought this because I had an issue years ago where my GFCI tripped and my refrigerator had no power. It wasn't until my garage started smelling that I even knew I had a problem. This GFCI is supposed to have an alarm go off when it trips. Well, I can tell you that if you're standing more then 4 feet away you can't hear the alarm. I was expecting an ALARM, not some tweet you can't even hear. Very disappointed with this and it's useless for what I wanted it for.

Great Tech Support from Leviton
I bought these to replace two GFCI outlets that worked fine, but had no alarm. One powered a freezer. I want to know right away if that outlet goes out because of a ground fault issue. I've had it trip during an electrical storm. When I installed the first outlet, it was as easy as can be. I simply swapped the wires from where they were attached on the old outlet to the new one. But the second outlet did not work. I thought it was defective. I contacted Leviton support and they were great. They suggested switching some wires around, and that was the culprit. Which means that the old one was not wired correctly. So this new outlet not only gave me an alarm, it fixed a wiring problem in my home. Top scores to their tech support team for following up with me as I worked through this issue.

Protecting circuit with refrigerator and freezer
I installed a new branch circuit in my garage, and, of course, it needed to be GFCI-protected. Also, in my garage, I have a freezer and a refrigerator. If this GFCI ever trips, I risk losing a lot of food if I don't notice it right away. So, I wanted to install a GFCI that not only gave a visual indication that it had tripped, but also an audible one. Now, whenever my wife gets out of the car or we walk through the garage to go outside, we'll hear the sound of this GFCI if the circuit is dead. Perfect! As others have noted, the volume is not very loud. Certainly not as loud as you might expect an alarm to be. But the alternating tones will get your attention if there aren't any loud noises to drown it out.

Loud enough
This thing is loud enough to hear a room over. If it’s in your garage or basement you may or may not hear it in your main living area but you should hear it when inside those structures. It is the perfect volume for our needs which is under the sink in the kitchen
