Life Gear LG329 Life Essentials 3-Day Survival Kit
The tote is just big enough to carry the food, water, and blanket. There is a detachable shoulder strap that comes with it. The main compartment can be zippered closed and is used to hold the food and blanket. There are 3 pockets near the top of the main compartment that can be used to hold extra blankets or unused/unfinished food bars. The outer face has six discreet pockets for holding the water packets. The tote has some pretty rugged construction and can be easily used again for other things like holding tools or medical supplies after the food and water are all gone. The food is a 6" X 5.5" X 1.25" slab that is subdivided into 9 bars that are approximately 2" X 1.83" X 1.25" each. 400 calories per bar. 3,600 calories total. Tastes like semi-sweet angel food cake made ultra-dense and crumbly like a big thick cookie. The fine sugar granules give it a slight sand-like grittiness as you chew. After eating one of these, I can almost guarantee that you'll want to wait several hours before attempting another one. It's not that they're bad tasting, it's just that they don't inspire mass consumption the way "real" food does. They say it is non-thirst provoking, but I would say it is minimally thirst provoking. After eating one of these bars, I was looking forward to a few sips of water to wash it down. The main ingredients in order are enriched flour, vitamins and minerals, vegetable shortening, and granulated sugar. 5-year shelf life, but once you open the package, you'll have to eat it all or let the rest go to waste because all the food becomes exposed to air and there is no way to re-seal it other than to put it back in the tote and zipper it closed. The water comes in six separate 4.225 oz sealed metalized pouches. The pouch says the water comes from "Oxnard Municipal Water Source" whatever that is, tap water probably. The taste is fairly clean with a bit of plastic flavoring and a hint of WD-40. The blanket comes highly folded and sealed in a small zip-lock baggie. It is the space-age type of mylar that is very thin, but very warm and highly reflective. If you put your head under the blanket you can still see through it kinda like silver reflective sunglasses. Dimensions are about 59" X 82".

Exactly what you pay for
Tastes horrible but it's not hard to stomach. The water per day is obviously wrong as all hell. Bring extra water with this one

Emergency Food backpacks
Although we haven’t had to use our emergency pack yet, I feel more comfortable knowing we have them in case of emergency. After researching other emergency kits, this one was the most economical and fully equipped. The back packs are wonderful. Ergonomically made to be easy to carry with plenty of pockets for your personal things. I give this product 5 stars

LifeGear came through when I needed it, but no Michelin star...
Didn't think I'd ever have to use this for survival, but G-d had other plans. Last month my car ran a ditch out in remote Bakersfield, CA back-roads. Cell phone dead and my legs broken, so I had to hunker down for the long haul. I popped in a Streisand CD and cracked open my LifeGear Emergency Food package. Everything tasted great and fresh. I tasted undertones of rosemary and fennel. Could have struck a better balance with lemon water, rather than unflavored water. And I don't think I'm the only one, but I am not sure what filtration process they used--kind of tasted like reverse osmosis, which isn't as eco-sustainable as spring water. So I took off a star in the rating for that. Thanks LifeGear! My legs are doing better!

Packs small, great for vehicles.
It packs smaller then I expected. Comes in a small box about the size of a shoe box. It will fit nice in the vehicles in case of an emergency. I put one in my jeep and one in my wife's trunk. I reccomend this product. I don't plan on opening these, unless I have too. Maybe in 4 1/2 years before they expire I will try them and write another review.

Good to keep in the car in case of emergency, compact size.
I keep these in the trunks of my cars in case of emergency. I hope I never have to use it. In a few years when the food is about to expire I will sample it and update this review. 5 stars for the price and concept.

How the hell do I know.
I purchase this for a situation that has not come to pass. So it would be better served after it was utilized. Now I am hoping that I never have to use this but I am fairly confident that it will meet my needs when that issues comes up.

Old stock
Food cake was more than one year since manufacture date so only 3.75 years of life left. I don't expect it to be made yesterday but July of last year? Very misleading to state that product has a 5 year shelf life. Water was packaged less than six months ago and space blanket was, well, a cheap space blanket.
