Beautiful Pressure Cooker
I love design. It's a bit retro and very culinary looking. It doesn't achieve as high of pressure as many other cookers, but it still cooks dried great northern beans, assuming they are fresh, in about 10-15 minutes for me. I love the screw-on clamp. It's actually fun to use. As others have mentioned, it must be turned down very tightly to avoid leakage of steam around the rim. It takes some practice using it. An electronic instant cooker may be easier and more consistent, but this feels more like you're actually cooking with pressure.

Best you can buy
A Magefesa pressure cooker was a staple in my house since I was a child. You cannot find anything better.

Revising my review
Apologies, there was something stuck under the lid which prevented it from shutting the whole way. Once I was able to remove that piece, it worked as designed. I have to add that you have to tighten the lid to the maximum possible limit to prevent any spillage/pressure loss. Adjusting the stars accordingly. Overall, it is a sturdy piece of equipment. ----------------------------------------- This thing is a piece of crap. After a few months now, it leaks water and cannot build up pressure no matter how much I tighten the lid. Save your money and buy something else.

Finally, my shredded beef is soft and pulls apart
I had a stovetop pressure cooker for decades but eventually the lid broke and the manufacturer closed their business. I have tried the Ninja and InstaPot as pressure cookers but the meat was never soft. I can put a chuck roast in this and shred it with a fork when it is done. The only down side is that it does not have an indicator that the pressure has been reached, you have to listen to the sound and watch it spin out of control then you know it reached it pressure. I will say, I called customer service and they answered their phone without a lot of wait time and they were very helpful.

Great
Good product. Closes tight and doesn't leak. Doesn't make loud noise.

Very Well Designed Pressure Cooker but Beware of Damage Due to Poor Shipping and Handling
The performance of the product is first rate. I pressure-fried chicken that would have impressed the Colonel. The downside is in the shipping. The first one arrived with a broken handle. Warily, I didn’t ship it back until the replacement arrived. Guess what? Another broken handle. I just removed the remaining unbroken handle and used it on the first unit. Other reviewers have also mentioned broken handles. One suggestion for users of this pressure cooker is to make sure that the lid is properly seated before using. It is very easy to lock down a misaligned lid, causing the unit to fail to come up to pressure.

Big Dint in the pot near the bottom and can't get a replacement....
The Pot has a fairly large Dint in it near the bottom. There are no scratches near the dent and the box was undamaged, so it must have happened during manufacturing or packaging. We never expected to find a dint so we were not looking for one. Found it while washing/cleaning the pot, but now its past the 30 day return window. With these pots being under so much pressure, wondering if its safe to use? And using it long term, will it be safe after multiple uses? Or is this now a ticking time bomb, just waiting to rupture and explode and cause real harm and damage?

SUITABLE FOR INDUCTION STOVETOPS!
I bought this Magefesa Star 8-liter to replace my smaller SEB Super-Cocotte of long-standing, probably 3 decades, after having moved to induction cook-top, for which my historic French model is not suited. I use the pressure cooker for brown rice, lentils, and globe artichokes! Which is a wondrous thing! I really wish this came with a basket like other pressure cookers do. Probably will order basket accessory from website internationally, but still kind of annoyed, as I use my pressure cooker to cook artichokes, among other things. The basket from the earlier device will fit in this Magefesa Star, but it is smaller in circumference. And I wish I had done more investigation regarding the different pressure cooker devices and models available, but I thought only of replacing the SEB Super-Cocotte. Also the Magefesa cookbook doesn't seem to exist in hard copy, which saddens me, as I got such a kick out of the SEB hardcopy manual/recipes book with its very French aspects and images. But the Magefesa information is available in .pdf version! I also have an excellent smaller GSI anodized aluminum pressure cooker of similar design, for use when camping, which likewise works great, but is appropriately of a smaller capacity.

Box was opened
The box was opened. If I was at the department store I would have looked and bought one that wasn’t opened especially paying a lot. Also after opening there were deep scratches on the lid plus a dent mark. It’s definitely been used!
