After 2 years, looks ugly, works fine
The first 5 months we had this lock it was securing a dinghy in salt water, getting repeatedly dunked. Whenever we used the dink, I'd blow the water out of the lock and spray in some WD-40. It worked fine. Then we used it to lock the ladder up to our boat which was stored outside. Constantly in the weather. Every month or two I'd spray the lock again. It's still working fine. As can be seen in the photos, there is some corrosion. The type of corrosion makes me think the body is die-cast which can be a more brittle metal. It will probably rot out faster than a brass or stainless lock would. But I expect to get at least another 3-4 years out of it. Overall, quite pleased for the price. Just be aware that outside it needs some help in the form of rust inhibiting lube.

Great Lock and heavy duty for all climates (indoor and outdoors)
Great lock that we use on all of our doors, we live in an area where you need to lock everything, so having a strong lock is very important to us. Heavy duty and great for all climates, we live beside the ocean and after 6 months so far there is no corrosion or rust on them. Also not jamming or anything either still. I would highly recommend this lock.

Chuck-E-Cheese-Prize Quality
Extremely disappointed in the dollar-store quality. MasterLock’s photos mislead me as they give a more solid appearance. It is not. In person it looks and feels like a few pieces of cheap metal slapped together in a dirty third-world factory that spews these things out with no quality control. I would compare it to the prizes at Chuck E Cheese Prize, which may even be better. I think I was ripped off on this one. I can’t speak to the performance of the lock yet but would be very suspicious given the gaps and misaligned components (see photo). I am nervous about trusting this lock on my storage unit.

Lock dials are loose
I like the fact you can change the combination. I don’t like the fact that the dials are not always line up exactly when to open. The dials appear to be loose.

Nice with one gotcha
The locks is very sturdy, the number wheels are easy to read and spin, and I love the easy combination setting procedure. However, because of the way to you set the combination, you cannot just roll the numbers while the lock is open. Our use is on a chain on a gate. If you leave the gate and lock open for any reason the actual combination has to be left on the lock; you cannot spin the numbers. So, if our gate is left unlocked, anyone who knows this can just look at the numbers and know the combination. I hope that makes sense. Another illustration is if you leave your gate open so someone can get in then you ask them to lock the gate on the way out, they see the combination and have to jumble the numbers for you when they leave.

The heavy duty model. Draw back is you cannot lock it without the Combination dialed in
This review is for the heavy-duty model. A key is not necessary to change the combination. I suspect that is why you cannot lock the lock without the combination. In other words, you cannot scramble the combination until it is locked. We have this on a chain for a gate, and now if we do not lock the lock after removing it, the combination is present on the tumbler. I.E. You could not open the lock, scramble the #s because it will not lock. For another person to lock it behind them, they need the combination. The combination will not scramble until you close the lock, and the lock will not close without the combination dialed in. Other than that, this model seems more sturdy than their less expensive model, which lasted us about 2-years outdoors.

A little expensive, but a high quality lock
Once you compare this model to the less expensive version, you can see that this one is better built and smoother in operation. My older on stopped working due to exposure to the weather and basically you could open it without the combination, which is not good. Hopefully this more expensive model will stand up to time. Make sure to test it frequently to make sure it is locking as it should.
