FROM THE MANUFACTURER Flexible jaw inserts are non-marring and are easily removed. They're made of high impact ABS plastic for long life and heavy use. The dual pivot feature allows the Merle to clamp virtually any size or shape securely! Perfect for circles and ovals, plus triangles, hexagons, octagons, and more. 23-foot steel banding included. The Merle clamp has almost no capacity limitation! Clamps as small as 2-5/8-by-2-5/8-to-69-by-69-inch, or 23-feet around, but can be extended to any length by using standard 3/8-inch steel banding or strapping. The Merle clamp will hold any type of frame for easy gluing, nailing or screwing. Even jointing force at all corners. It's excellent for wide cabinet type frames (use in the center or edges), and also for narrow picture frames. The adjustable Merle clamp allows you to use as much or as little clamping pressure as needed. Cast aluminum and steel construction makes the Merle clamp a tough tool that will work hard and long for you. Quick Release Corner Clips pull off with finger pressure. Just clip on more corners and get to work!

Awesome
This clamping system works very well. Just like the other reviews it is a little difficult to use but if you make it big enough before gluing it is awesome.

Nice
This product was easy to use, I bought one of these and several of the cloth strap ones on Amazon, they all had exactly the same problem though. If the cabinet door or whatever your building is not perfectly centered they can pop off. I think the flat surfaces that hold the frame in place should be textured or something to prevent that from happening. I ended up putting masking tape on the inside of the plastic edges that hold the frame, to prevent it from popping off. That did not 100% solve the problem, but it did help. Also making sure the frame that you’re working with is perfectly centered in the plastic corner pieces will help to.

Difficult unless Patient
Can be challenging to use. Somewhat awkward but once set properly, works well. Be patient.

Dry Fit and Life is Good
This is solid tool worthy of production use. The pros include very strong clamping pressure, even clamping pressure, clamping all sides at once (>4 if you buy extra corners), plastic corner inserts for softer materials or to accommodate corner irregularities, the ability to clamp from small to enormous, the availability of replacement parts if needed, and sturdy build. The price is quite reasonable for a tool of such quality and capability. Some complain of the fussiness of using the clamp. Well, it DOES take a little finesse or practice to get it just right. On the other hand, there’s nothing fussier than a glue-up with a bunch of separate corner clamps, or 90-degree blocks with screw clamps ... Basically, simplifying use with the Merle clamp amounts to a dry run to get the right length of band and the corners positioned. This takes only seconds to a minute or so, depending on how accustomed you are. If you dry-fit and then loosen just enough to easily slip the corners off, it’s easy to pop them back on again and tighten once you’ve applied glue. Stress-free. If you DON’T dry fit first and try to glue up and adjust all at one, it’s going to feel like a hurried mess ... and you probably will make a mess, too. Do make sure the band clamp bolt (the one that needs a wrench) is *tight*. The screw mechanism exerts tremendous force and the band *will* slip if the bolt is not tight. Terrific product. 5 stars as a production tool. Perhaps 4 for the casual user due to the need to acquire a bit of skill.

Works very well in unique clamping technique.
A sound design that really works. Highly recommend. Not sure how long steel band will last. It creases at some of the clamping points at handle, but that doesn’t seem serious. Would advise coating with light oil before storage. Some of the water based glues could initiate rust. This often requires two people to install, especially on large chest of drawers, etc.

Makes framing easy
These have brought joy to make frame making, a once mega pain in my arse. What I don't like is the spring loaded metal strip holder. Thing bashes my hand and it's difficult to use all around. Second is that this takes some effort to get this on a frame. It's not that simple b/c you are constantly adjusting. All said, I can frame something in a fraction of the time, get everything square and make a really polished product. All the things I don't like about this pale by the value it delivers. If you are making painting canvases, picture frames, windows or doing wood working, this thing really makes the overall experience joyful.
