Heavy duty press great for smashing my green plantains

I bought this to smash my green plantains flat to fry like chips. It works great and was easy to put together. It was fairly easy to season the cast iron as well. Because it was heavy weight it was easy to press down on with little strength to smash the plantains. I don’t see how I survived without one of these presses all my life.

Heavy duty press

What I love about this tortilla press is the strength and sturdiness of this machine. While everything has to be manually used, this thing does not break under pressure. I have used this to make flour and corn tortillas and this thing really does get them as flat as I want them. I did find that using either parchment or wax paper does seem to help with it to not stick to the press itself. This tortilla press is not light at all as it is a cast iron. I don't ever really hand wash it but more just wipe it clean if it does get dirty. Even with it sitting out on my counter, this press shows no signs of rusting or even coming undone from the back at all. This thing really is heavy duty and even after making over 100 tortillas, it's still working as if it just came in.
