Design changed, still best option
I last purchased this door in 2013 for $11, to install on a closet. This allowed me to convert an unused closet into my cat's personal lavatory. I purchased this same door in 2023 when I moved homes, this time for $13 (reasonable inflation). However, the new door doesn't have the magnet that helps the door from swinging back/forth. I prefer w/ the magnet, so reduced my review to 4-star (still meets expectations). FYI: the hinge is squeaky; both my 2013 and 2023 ones squeak whenever my cat uses it, but a little grease every year does wonders.

Good cat door
I put this on a bedroom door so cats could go in and out but dog wouldn’t end up in bed. Works great! Easy to install. Petsafe is a great company with excellent customer service. I’ll prefer petsafe over other pet product brands every time!

Kitty uses it with no problem.
As long as it works for a kitty, it's a useful tool.

Easy Installation.
We have several of these and have never had a problem with installation. They stand up well to regular use by our furry overlords.

Not the best system
The two sides do not screw together through the door. Only one side screws into the door and the opposite piece attaches to the door with adhesive. If you have a hollow core door, you will have a gap between the two pieces of the cat door

Flap design - BEWARE........CAT GETS PAW stuck !
Love the cat door for ease of installation. Locking mechanism is clumsy as there is no way to hold the door shut while you slide the lock in lock both sides. Worst thing is, a cat that is tentative, paws the flap first, and gets their paw stuck when they pull back. VERY BAD DESIGN. It works fine for three of my four cats. My one cat has gotten his paw stuck twice, luckily I was close by before he started screaming. I can see how it could break a paw with him struggling. I cannot leave it unlocked if I am not home. It is for their access to their large outdoor catio (they are indoor only cats, so this is their playhouse). I am going to have to devise a vinyl flap and a way to tie the hard flap open for them when it's ok for them to go to their playhouse (it is kept locked at night and when I am away from home) . I would hate to be out in the yard or at the barn and have my boy get his paw stuck as there is no way for him to get it out without my intervention. I've read here that it's happened to others. I think the soft flap version would be the way to go, but this is stalled and I will try my homemade fix first. Disappointed. And concerned.

Not sturdy enough to keep raccoon out.
The front doesn’t screw into back. I installed with locking on the outside where screws are installed the other side just wraps in. Screws are short and extremely close to cutout. Raccoon pulled it alert with easy. We reinstalled using caulking and block opening at night.

It works
It’s a cheap solution to a big problem. Dogs got into cat food. So we moved the cat food ???? not the bathroom and installed the door. Remember to put the screw side on the side the dogs are on as they will stick their noses through and mock the retaining ring off. One side is screw on, the other has adhesive patches. The adhesive doesn’t last long and the ring will fall off. We bought two. Same problem on both of them.

Looks terrible!!
No telescoping collar like some cat doors so you can see the hollow inside of an interior door. Seriously, this looks terrible! The instructions suggest duck tape!? This opening will result in cat hair and other debris building up inside the door. Not to mention kids dropping stuff down there. The magnetic flap has the cats a little reluctant to use the door and makes an unnecessary noise everytime the cats use the door. Only one trim piece securely screws in, you are expected to use double sided tape for the other side. Also the template results in a larger than required hole being cut.

Needs something in between.
Reading reviews is important. Reading the reviews I already knew about the products short commings before I bought. A little "Redneck injinuity" and it is now perfect. If you buy this product get some low yield expanding foam (don't want it to expand too much and warp the door) once installed, spray the foam into the cavity of the hollow door you can see through the cat door, tape the flap open (photo# 4) to its maximum so it does not get near the foam. Wait for it to dry. Trim out excess and release the flap. If it moves freely you, my friend, are GOLDEN. About the overall install, It was straight forward for your average handyman. Just remember "if the ladies don't find you handsome, they best find ya handy" (quote: Red Green)

Mostly works okay
I have 3 small to medium cats and they fit fine. The medium one has to squeeze through a bit. If you have a typical fat, large North American cat, I'd look for a bigger model. The installation was pretty uneventful. If you cut out the opening according to the directions, it fits well. The only downside of the door is that it is so light that it often won't shut completely and stays open a bit. I put a tiny bit of WD-40 on each hinge and it seems to work a bit better, but I feel that the design lacks in this aspect. I might try to tape a small weight near the bottom of the door if it happens again. If the doors stays open the wrong way, the cat has a hard time getting through.

Improvised a lot but I’m please with my own cleverness lol
Not the easiest to install because I didn’t have all the correct tools. I ended up using large drill bits to make the holes large enough for a hand saw. I had to clean up the edges with a steak knife lol. I hid the interior of the door with a wide piece of ribbon I had. I also caulked the edges. For the cost I’d say very good.
