About Planet Bike Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin, in November of 1996. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment first and foremost, with a dedication to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment. The people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose that seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25 percent of company's profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact. Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, the company strives to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short 10-year history, it has made a number of important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the four-line computer, which is now a standard in the industry, and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that started as a one-man operation more than a decade ago. While still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve its product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, Planet Bike has made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

Very Bright, Can Be Seen From Over A Mile Away
I purchased 3 sets of these bicycle lights for my children and myself, and I am very pleased with the quality and performance of these lights. Both the front and rear lights are extremely bright and can be seen from over a mile away (when properly aimed). The different light patterns are also very nice (ranging from solid mode to multiple blinking modes), and there are extra bright modes for daytime riding. When fully charged, they will outlast any amount of riding that we can do in one day. They do take a while to charge, so make sure to plan your charging cycle accordingly (allow 2-4 hours for full charges).

like, ever
My husband and I have had these lights for, like, ever. But, over time, we've lost some on our own, had a few swiped off the bike, and one just died due to time and overuse. So, I purchased a set of supposedly fancy schmancy tail lights at my local bike shop with a nice little rubberized attachment - pretty much the only reason I tried them, because I have a Bike Friday Pocket Llama and the tubing is oddly shaped in places which make it difficult to attach headlamps. These fancy schymancy lights were supposed to last forever and be brighter than any other lights. Well, after the first set of those large flat batteries died out after what didn't seem that long, I replaced them with a fresh set. Less than a week later (and less than 3-5 hours of night riding) they died again. So, I replaced the batteries one more time, only to find out the light just didn't work anymore. So...I gave up with all that fancy schmancy stuff and went back to the old tried and true, Planet Bike lights. These have consistently been the BEST lights my husband and I have ever owned...and we bike a lot. 7,000+ miles through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, 3,000+ miles across the U.S. from North to South, and countless miles in between commuting to work and to have fun. DON'T BUY ANY OTHER LIGHTS....I've learned my lesson...Planet Bike is all you'll ever need.

Best combo set for the price!
These lights are great! The Superflash tail light is the brightest one on the market, but you don't have to just take my word for it. If you look up the tail light by itself, you'll see about 150+ 5 star reviews for it. Also, the local bike shops try and sell the tail light alone for about $35...almost as much as this combo set. The mounting options are great as well. I like to clip it to either my backpack or on my seat bag, but it does come with the necessary hardware to mount directly to your seat post or on the seat stays. The front light is a good blinky. It too is very bright. I have read a few bad reviews about it, but that is mostly due to improper use. It DOES have a narrow beam. This light set is meant to be used as 'BE SEEN' lights...not 'TO SEE'. In my opinion, it does do an ample job of lighting the road ahead of you in low light situations, but if you are riding in complete darkness away from any street lights, you may want a proper headlight...and you're not going to find that for under $50. UPDATE:June 22, 2011 Well, over 2 years later, and the lights are still going strong. I did upgrade to the PlanetBike 2w Blaze headlight on 12/10, but I still have the 1/2w as a back up. The Superflash tail light is NOT the brightest light on the market anymore, but it is still among the favorites of avid cyclists. The only issue I've had so far is that one of the contacts in the tail light was corroding. All I had to do was scrub it a little with a green scrubby and it was all good again.

Good quality set for a reasonable price
This set of blinky lights is a great option to get set up for night riding. I purchased the set because I had seen the Superflash Tail Light in action and was very impressed. In my opinion, it is one of the best bike tail lights available. The tail light alone would warrant a 5 star rating. The headlight, I was not quite as impressed with. It's a quality light, but I found it was no brighter than the existing LED headlight I have owned for approximately 5 years. I was hoping that the improvements in LED technology would make this a brighter light. It's still a very good light to make you visible, but not quite enough to be used as your only source of light when it's completely dark out. Also, I did not have any issues with the attachment as other commenters have mentioned. Once you understand how the mechanism works, it is easy to adjust and superior to most attachment systems with the multitude of rubber spacers. Conclusion: If Planet Bike packaged their 1 watt headlight with the Superflash tail light, that would be an ideal combination. As is, this set is a very good value.

Meh. Much better deals/products are out there.
I bought this when I started cycling, and at first only used them at night, but began using them on the flash function in the daytime as well once I got hit by a car. I like the red taillight, and plan to keep using it (conveniently, you're able to put it nearly wherever you want using the very-adjustable mount), but the headlight is sub-par. As you can see from the picture, it is front-heavy, so while you're riding, the weight of the light pulls it downward so it winds up aiming at the front wheel. My commute is six miles, and on each trip I have to pull it back upright a few times. Its clamp is adjustable and comes with rubber straps to put between the bar and the clamp in case your bar is really thin, but I still haven't been able, for all my trying, to get the thing to stay snugly. The way you close the clamp is poorly designed, so it will just jostle open while you ride, and then the light is free and loose to flop down so it's no longer pointing at the road. That said, I like how both lights attach and detach easily, and again, I'm pleased with the taillight. But looking at this now, I kinda can't believe I paid this price for a combo like this. I'm now buying a different, well-reviewed headlight for $9. I can't recommend this package.
