Works on gas AMAZON.COM Pressure cookers have experienced renewed popularity over the last several years because cooks have rediscovered what some cooks (particularly grandmas) have known for a long time--they're really fast. And it's easy to cook healthfully with pressure cookers, since the food retains so much more of its nutrients and flavor. Presto's 6-quart stainless steel pressure cooker is a multi-purpose pot that can stand in as a conventional soup pot as well as perform the kitchen magic that pressure cookers are famous for. Chicken Cacciatore cooks in 8 minutes! This professional-quality stainless steel pressure cooker is a handy addition to any well-rounded set of kitchen tools. The heavy-duty lid locks down during cooking; an inner sealing ring keeps the steam in. In addition to a pop-up pressure indicator and a simple steam release mechanism, there is an overpressure plug that will let off steam if it builds up excessively. This pressure cooker is useful for weeknight dinners or for any meal that needs to come together quickly. An accompanying booklet contains more than 65 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roasts--even desserts like 5-minute custards! Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork; or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture. Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this stainless steel pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The Presto 6-quart pressure cooker is fully immersible; in addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. The vent pipe is simple to keep clean with a small brush or pipe cleaner, and both the air vent/cover lock and the overpressure plug are removable. The pressure cooker measures 9 inches in diameter (17 inches including handles) and 8-1/2 inches tall (including lid). Presto guarantees this pressure cooker with an extended 12-year warranty. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. --Garland Withers

Perfect meal prep every time!
I have been using my 23 quart Presto pressure cooker for pressure canning and sterilizing grains, but found it to be too large and cumbersome for my initial grain preparation. This six quart Presto is a more manageable size and cooks my grains in less than half the time of a conventional pot. I'm glad I read the instructions because there is a difference in procedure when using this smaller size. You keep the weight/jiggler on throughout the entire process instead of waiting until pop-up valve rises and the unit is fully pressurized. I love that it is induction ready and I can set the timer on my cook top without worrying about overcooking my food. Once I hear the jiggler rocking I just lower the heat setting, set a timer, and can go about whatever I am doing without having to babysit the process because it will turn off at the right time.

Compatibility between old and new pots and parts.
New pot is okay, difficulty distinguishing a pressure cooker pot performance and the canning preserve process. When I ask for a pressure cooker that is what I want, not a canning preserve container. The pressure seal ring does not accommodate the old pressure cooker - disappointing.

Good size
This is a pressure cooker much like the one I have used for many years. If I worry that my beef won't be tender enough for my beef stew, I just cut it in chunks and brown it in a little oil then add some water and pressure it. Turns out great every time.

Easy to Use
Great pot, easy to use. I never know how hard to use my old pressure cooker was until I used this one. Heats up quickly, too. I thought it was a good price on Amazon. I'd recommend

Very Nice Stove Top Pressure Cooker
I bought this for my mom to replace her old aluminum pressure cooker of the same brand. My mom is 94 and since she was used to using this style for decades I figured it would be the best choice. She fixed us dinner tonight-Classic Porcupine Meatballs and they were delicious! This pressure cooker is stainless steel and I noticed the meatballs didn't stick to the bottom at all-her old one always had issues with food sticking to the bottom and sometimes burning. I think the smooth shiny finish of the pot is the factor and since there was no sticking-easier to wash. Very pleased with the pressure cooker.

I wish I'd bought this years ago!
I wish I could give this pressure cooker 10 stars! For about 45 years, I've enjoyed and used my very simple but large Lagostina. Now that I'm alone, I wanted to be able to pressure cook small pot roasts and corned beef, etc. The chuck roast I cooked first came out beautifully - I knew then my 4-quart Presto was just perfect for my needs. Where it went over the top was when I cut a larger corned beef piece into two pieces, added about a cup of water, put the pieces on the insert that came with it, brought the Presto to the point where the top hissed strongly, lowered the heat so it hissed quietly - and an hour later had the most succulent, tender, juicy corned beef that just melted in my mouth. The stainless steel is high quality and cleans easily. The manual said I could put it in my dishwasher, but I'm so crazy about this wonderful pressure cooker that I hand wash it lovingly. I don't think I can praise the Presto Pressure cooker adequately. I'm just dithering with delight and strongly recommend it. Lastly, the price is reasonable! Don't even think about it - if you need a smaller pressure cooker, this Presto 4 Quart is unbeatable!

Perfect for me!
This is the right size for one or two people. This cooker suits my needs perfectly. A larger size in steel would be too heavy for a senior with arthritic hands, but steel is the best quality for fast cooking, so this one is just right. It is easy to handle and cooks beautifully. I am a long-time pressure cooker user and have always liked Presto's reliability, simple design and easy operation. Some other makes can be complicated to use. Cheaper products are unreliable - I once lost my supper in a pot that locked and could not be opened!

Good cooker, although lighter than expected
I bought this cooker some months ago and finally used it recently. It is nicely made and easy to put together. Safety and usage instructions are basic and easy to follow. Initially I was a bit surprised by its weight, which seemed not as heavy as might have been expected for a stainless steel item. However, it works well and I have made some nice meals in it. You do need to figure out the quantity of water to meat/chicken ratio, or you end up with a very watery gravy which you need to dry off or thicken. I had read that some customers had noticed a rusting of the item where the screws/nuts go into the body. When I hand wash the cooker I make sure to dry it immediately, so hopefully this problem won't occur. I did notice some odd water spots right after the first use (in the lid before I washed it). After washing the spots seemed lighter, but come back again after using. Possibly the heat and temperature cause a slight discolouration of the metal (a bit funny, since it's "stainless steel." Overall, I like this cooker as it is easy to use and saves time, as long as it doesn't suddenly start to rust or develop odd discolouration. I bought the product on Amazon for about $30, which I feel was a fair price for the item. If I had to make a recommendation to improve this cooker, I would suggest the manufacturer makes sure the screws/nuts are of high quality stainless steel, to prevent rusting, and that the cooker is made a bit heavier and resistant to those pesky water spots. I have other stainless steel cookware (Paderno) that does not get these spots.

Good results
Cuts down cooking time drastically for sure. That surely means more nutrients, and flavour, are retained. Fall-off-the-bone tenderness for tough things like ribs, oxtails, etc. No problem with cleanup of this stainless steel pot.
