Hole spacing not as published; needs to be re-worked
I bought this F 2594 sash lock as a replacement for one of my International Window Corp. sliding glass windows. The original part is made out of plastic and the latch arm broke in half. The window was still able to lock but I wanted the full length of the latch. I selected this part as the published specs appeared to exactly match the original part. Plus it's made out of diecast aluminum so the base around the holes will not crack, as some of mine are now doing, and the arm won't snap in half when the window is opened too hard (after many, many years). When I tried to install it, I realized that something was very wrong. The screws would not go in straight. The only logical reason for this was that the hole spacing was off. The original part (right photo) has a center-hole to center-hole spacing of 2 1/4" (red line), exactly as the diagram in the package indicates (red circle). The F 2594 (center photo) part's hole spacing is slightly less; about 2 3/16". The red line in the second photo goes from the center of one hole to the edge of the other hole. This accounts for why the screws wouldn't go into the window frame correctly. I used a couple of drill bits to enlarge the holes, close enough to get to the 2 1/4" that I needed. Once I installed the sash lock, I discovered a second issue. The protrusion of the sash lock was not curved the same as the original (left photo). This meant that it was very hard to close the lock. A few minutes with a Dremel grinding wheel took off enough metal to allow the lock to operate with just an easy flick of the finger. In conclusion, this sash lock is made from excellent materials which hopefully will last more than the 25+ years that I believe these windows have been in my home. However, because the physical part does not meet the published specifications (the hole spacing), I can only give two stars for this review.
