This torsion spring is constructed of steel and it includes a stationary cone and a winding cone attached to opposite ends of the spring. These types of torsion springs provide lifting force for heavy garage doors and must be selected by the spring’s dimensions, rather than the door’s weight. See the product specifications with illustrations found in Prime-Line’s Torsion Spring Selection Guide to assure that the proper replacement spring has been selected. In the case of dual spring installations, note that the proper use of LEFT WIND and RIGHT WIND springs is imperative. Also, when dual spring installations are involved, it is important to replace both springs, as replacing only 1 spring may add increased strain to the older non-replaced spring. This torsion spring is a regular duty spring with an estimated lifetime rating of 10,000 cycles. As an important safety precaution: all broken or malfunctioning hardware should be replaced with matching hardware, without any modifications. These garage door torsion springs can cause serious injury if not handled and installed properly. If attempting to replace the torsion springs yourself, it is important that the removal or adjustment of torsion springs is not attempted with any other tool other than Prime-Line’s item number GD-52238. Failure to utilize Prime-Line’s item number GD-52238 for the replacement of these springs may result in severe personal injury. These winding rods are used to wind and unwind the tension on torsion springs and they are the only tools recommended for this purpose. Note: To determine the handing of your torsion spring wind, look at the end of the spring with the ‘finger’ of the spring at the top of the wind. When the end of the spring is at 12:00 oft.clock and it is pointing to the left, the spring is a right wind; if the end of the spring points to right (positioned at 12:00 oft.clock) it is a left wind. When standing inside the garage looking outside, the torsion spring with the black painted winding cone installs on the right side of the door, and the torsion spring with the red painted winding cone installs on the left side of the door.

Right hand springs are mounted to left side of center and left hand springs are mounted to the right side of center (inside the garage looking out). Spring includes stationary & winding cones. Replacement requires use/purchase of item no. GD-52238 and a clear understanding of wire size and handing. When dual spring installations are involved, it is important to correctly install both the LEFT & RIGHT WIND SPRINGS during the same job. .207 in. wire size x 2 in. inside dimension x 20 in. length with orange color code. This right hand wound torsion spring is used for replacing broken garage door springs. 2 in. inside diameter. Right hand wind springs are mounted to the left of center (as viewed from the inside the garage looking out). Exact Replacement Left-Hand Spring for 7ft Garage Door
This is the exact replacement Left-Hand torsion spring for my 7ft garage door. It has the exact identical specifications as the old one – (.250 inch x 2 inch x 32 inch). This is the “Left-Hand wind” spring, which is the one on the right side if you’re looking at both springs from the inside and standing under the garage door opener. Comparing the build quality to the one being replaced that's over 15 years old, this Prime-Line spring just looks and feels of a far better product overall and should last just as long, if not longer. For the DIY savvy replacing a garage door torsion spring can take time but isn’t as hard. Understanding the process and exercising caution especially winding the springs is a must, as well as using the right tools for the job. For the non or limited DIY savvy folks, replacing such spring can be dangerous and isn’t a beginner’s project. It is best handled by professionals or more experienced individuals.

Easy to install if you have done it before.
Have needed to replace the broken spring for a long time. The new one was easy for me, because I used to do this for an old company that I worked for 12 years ago. (Dock Doors) you can get all the tools and parts off of Amazon. I replaced the rollers, cables, bottom brackets L/R, and the spring. I spray painted the horizontal line on the spring to count how many windings I put on the springs. All told it took me right around 3hrs to do all of this. (I'm 65 years old) This saved me a lot of $$$$$$ by not having to call a garage door company.

The Spring is Not Coated
The spring installed as it should and was the correct dimensions. Be aware that this is a bare metal spring with no coating. Be sure you live in an environment that this won't become a problem.

Replacement door spring without a service call
I bought these as they were the closest match to the springs that broke on my residential torsion spring garage door. My door is an insulated aluminum 4 panel door, 7' tall and 2 cars wide. I did buy the right hand wind spring to compliment this one because I did want to replace them in pairs. So, the spring itself was properly marked, it did have the indicator paint, and set screws. It had instructions taped to the spring with a table indicating how much lift each color could have, but fat load of good that does when clearly the spring has already arrived. It does not include any winding bars. So, installed these on 6/15/15 - they're stronger springs than I had before, so they required a bit less winding. The construction looks good and safe. I didn't notice any issues with the springs themselves upon installation. Some fiddling around, and I was able to repair my garage myself and get each spring set so it raises and lowers just fine. Now, these are prime - but it did take 4 days to reach me. That was 4 doors of not having my garage door work which very much upset me. Amazon gave me a $5 refund on the order, so $0.05 per hour that I couldn't use my garage. Thanks. . . But you can't fault the product for that. So, 4/5 stars right now because its too soon to say how durable they are. I would say 5, but because while it would be easy to include winding rods, they choose not to. Knowing they're selling through amazon which can be sold directly to the end user also. Maybe make it an option like sizing or something.

Green = 120lbs each. Left wind = right side spring
Now my right side spring broke, so let me copy my review from the left spring over here, as it's the same product. The quality of the left spring has been good during the year I've installed it. Green color code on the spring means it supports 120lbs, or 240lbs if using double springs. Note that the picture is wrong, as it shows brown code on the spring. There's also a color code on the winding cone (not the spring) Red cone = Right wind = counter clockwise = Left side Black cone = Left wind = clockwise = Right side (picture is wrong again, as the code shown had red paint on the cone.) There are 2 ways to determine the correct spring, either by weighing the garage door or measuring the existing spring: By Weight: A double roll-up garage door is typically about 200-250lbs. There's a tutorial on the web showing how to weight it with a bathroom scale. By Measurement: need inside spring diameter, spring length and gauge. To measure gauge, get the length of 10 coils together. If it comes out to 2.5 inches exactly, then each coil is 0.25 inch.

Good product. worked well.
Costs around $75.00 for the spring. You will also need to purchase two winding rods if you do not already have a set. Watch a few YouTube videos before attempting. Take your time and be careful.

Great buy
So happy to have done this myself. It was much easier than I thought and much cheaper than any contractor. Spring looks strong (time will tell if it lasts or not but very confident it will), and perfectly fit my 1 inch outside diameter bar and 3 ¼ inch bracket (center bolt). I would definitely buy again.

Perefect replacement for my broken garage door spring
Perfect replacement for my broken garage door spring, easy to install and excellent quality. DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON YOUR SAFETY!!! BUY THE ADJUSTING RODS. Changing your garage door springs in not difficult but make sure you use the correct tools even if you are prob only going to use it once. If the rods you use snap or bend and spin back is could take out your eye or teeth..
