I installed the kit on my Rikon 70-105 Lathe. I had to redrill the holes on the original faceplate to get to fit. After redrilling the motor fit to the lathe with no problems. I too think there should be some consideration for a better place to mount the controller to the lathe. The original motor was a 1/2 hp motor and the new motor is 3/4 hp. However, the new motor seems to bog down when turning and especially when using Forster bits. Otherwise it does allow me to use the lathe without changing belt positions which is what I was looking for. But would be nice to have more power.

Easy installation on my Harbor Freight 65345 mini lathe. Works great so far!
I didn't read the directions and I had it installed in under 30 minutes. I also installed a digital tachometer, and on the lowest pulley speed, I am getting a range of 480-1900RPM. I can't see needing to change the belt for speed adjustments at all.

Good product
This works exactly as it should. It is smooth and does not vibrate. I would like to see the control more adaptable to mount right on the lathe.

Low power
I replaced a 1/3 hp lathe motor with this one, the nameplate lists this as 3/4 hp, but when I put a gouge in it slows the material down considerably. That didn't happen with the 1/3hp motor.

Belt sander conversion
Great kit for belt sander conversion. Variable speed motor great for woodworking and sharpening tools.

Item was faulty obviously not checked
The item did not work at all. It was supposed to be an “open returned” item but specifically stated it had been tested. Was obvious when opened there was a problem. Loose wires and you could smell the burnt electronics.

General International Lathe
Had to replace control board on General International VARIABLE SPEED “MAXI-LATHE VF” 25-114QC lathe. This kit worked well and lathe is up and running.

Great Kit for Converting a Lathe to Variable Speed
This kit uses good quality parts. The D.C. motor is compact, but has plenty of power, (3/4 HP). The motor runs quietly and without vibration. The controller has a conservatively designed variable speed power supply that I consider industrial quality. Using the supplied 3 step motor pulley, and the smallest pulley position yielded a minimum speed of 500 RPM, and a maximum speed of 2200 RPM. That is all the range I need, so messing about with belts and pulleys will not be necessary for me......just dial the speed that I need. Of course your needs and the lathe spindle pulleys that you have may yield different results. While the kit is well made and contains the basics for doing a lathe conversion, there are so many different lathes that modifications may be necessary, or, if you are lucky, it could just be a bolt up operation. For this reason, I do NOT recommend this kit to someone who does not have some basic skills and a decent set of tools. It may take a little work to install, but the results are worth it. P.S. I also installed an inexpensive tachometer, purchased on Amazon for under $20.00. I consider that essential.
