This sword features: a white blade, black handle, black pommel and black guard. A combination of the extended pommel and Xtreme single hand blade becomes the Rawlings sparring Bastard sword. This sword is very popular with younger students where it can be used as a longsword Trainer with great effect. The blades are designed to flex in the last one-third of their length towards the tip, allowing for much safer thrusting than with conventional wooden wasters or shinai. The blade/tang joint is reinforced by a high tensile steel rod running along the full length of the handle, so removing the handle flex typically associated with plastic training swords. These synthetic-bladed swords also provide an excellent option for Theatrical use, being inherently safer than steel or aluminum. The variety of interchangeable parts offered by Red Dragon also provides an economical means to create many different styles of sword on a single blade. The ball shaped quillon finials and rounded pommels of the longsword and single-hand sword are designed for sparring safety, as are the pommel and basket of the basket-hilt sword. The grips are manufactured from a rubber-like thermoplastic elastomer, designed to absorb the impact of strikes and to provide a tight fit on the tangs.These synthetic-bladed swords also provide an excellent option for Theatrical use as well. Two swords broke after a few months of none-regular use

I have had these for a few months now, I ordered the first and was very impressed and ordered another one immediately after. First of all assembling them was not the best experience as the tolerances on the screws were way too tight and it was almost impossible to tighten the hilt 100% . I haven't been using them very often, around a practice session once a week or two and some self practice that doesn't include hitting. About a week ago I dropped one of the swords and the hilt just snapped right in the middle with a clean snap on the screw inside (which also prevented me from being able to remove the hilt and replace it), and I brushes it off to terrible luck. Just now I was practicing and on just a regular swing at a soft target the hilt on my second one snapped in the exact same way, meaning it is a consistent issue. I have never used these swords in a way more intensive that just plain sparring which is supposedly their purpose. I am very upset about it all as I absolutely loved my swords and it's a shame they just had such a poorly made hilt, as the blade and guard are still in mint condition. I am now contacting Red Dragon Armoury to get a replacement, and will update the review as soon as I get a response.

Great one hander for adults, works as a two hander for youths

These Rawlings one-handers with the hand and a half pommel work great as a bastard sword. I purchased this primarily to add in some one handed sword practice, and it does that well. In addition, I have little ones that are interested in HEMA but too young to join the club yet. This is sized well for them to use this as a longsword.

Not Good For Parries, Blade Too Flimsy

This should be called a bastard sword. The hilt, handle is way too short. The reach is short as well. The best way to thrust with this is one handed thrust. But a real longsword, that wouldn't go too well. This only works, because this is super light. And a bit too flimsy on the parry block. Can't do certain perfect parries. Only fake cut fients into real thrusts work.

Great practice swords - I would recommend

I have used these practice swords over the past year and love them. The single handed sword with the extended pommel is great for use as a hand and a half sword as well as a single handed sword.
