This Segal (single cylinder) rim deadbolt lock is constructed of solid bronze alloy and it comes in a polished brass plated finish. It features a jimmy-proof, spring-loaded shutter guard mechanism, which prohibits forced entry by way of lock picking and tampering. This is a surface-mounted, cross-bolt security-locking device, which can be mounted on 1-3/8 in. to 2-3/8 in. thick, wood or metal doors. This Segal brand deadlock includes a box strike, a rim cylinder, two keys, a cylinder trim ring, fasteners, a mounting plate and installation instructions. This maximum-security deadlock cylinder is keyed differently. All fasteners and installation instructions are included with this item.

Broke Immediately

It completely broke within 2 weeks. When it arrived, it looked cheap, but I thought Segal was a good brand, so I went with it. I spent money to have this lock installed, and less than 2 weeks later, the lever snapped and now it doesn't open and close. Now I need to replace the lock, and pay to have it re-installed. This product is listed as "not eligible for return" Soooo frustrating. I do not recommend this product.

Old design

These aren't as good as modern nightlatches like the Lockwood 001 that can be made to stay open by turning the switch. They can be made to stay open with the pull down button but it's more of an after thought, they're really made to shut automatically when you close the door. If you want to lock yourself out this is the perfect old design for you. I'm not sure about the strength of the latch and if they come close to the larger Segal droplocks and grade 1 deadbolts, I know the modern Yale latches of this size are garbage and break from one or two kicks. I think the Segals are still better than that even if they've been bought by Primeline and are made in China now. I think they're worth $20-40. If you have to pay more then spend that money on something more modern. And don't forget to upgrade the rim cylinder to something like an Assa.
