Works well with help
The product works well with a lot of elbow grease, I cleaned a brass bed that was coated with lacquer, I had to clean the surface with acetone first then immediately rub in this product.

worked but took a lot of time and elbow grease
site description and reviews left impression that it worked "like magic"; took a lot of hard rubbing with a terrycloth rag to clean and polish a vintage aluminum handlebar. It did look great when finished, however.

Amazing!
Purchased the Pre Polish and the Polish a year ago, and I have used the pre polish way more. I purchased these to enhance the chrome on my 1995 Harley Sportster, and Rolite was not the first brand I bought. Here I have an example using a 50 year old construction level. I have been so pleased, and amazed with the quality and capacity if Rolite that I've taken the time to post a real life comparison. The red tube, is Pro Honda Metal Polish and Restorer, recommended by a longtime motorcycle enthusiast that has trophies that represent "show" bikes. This product was more expensive than Rolite, and I have used it on several different surfaces, not just the brass you see here. The other product is White Diamond Metal Polish. Both tests were performed using basic supplies, one paper towel of the same brand folded the same number of times. Product was applied and allowed to sit for several seconds before beginning to clean. By far, Rolite is the best for cleaning all metal surfaces, but especially those that have the ability to shine. The White Diamond performed considerably well, the Pro Honda did not. Keep in mind that these photos are after using Rolite "Pre" Polish. Not actual polish, and it still out performed these other two. Rolite just can not be compared to regarding metal polish.

Removes rust but needs several applications
I have used the Rolite metal polish made by this company on some small tools and guitar parts and it worked great so I tried this pre-polish on some bigger tools and a rusty barn door. It worked fairly well at removing rust and grime. This is not a miracle product and it will require a lot reapplying if you want to remove all of the rust. I found that using a metal scrubbing pad or brush in combination with this product worked best for rust removal. This will scratch the surface of your metal so be clear about your expectations and intentions. This will not leave your surface shinny and polished, but that is not what I needed. I have not seen the rust return yet and it's been a couple of months.

You need this if you are rehabbing vintage metalwork
I used this on an antique brass floor lamp that belonged to my grandmother which hadn't been cleaned in at least 30 years. I hit it with regular polish and the grunge wouldn't budge. Using this product required a fair amount of elbow grease and a lot of cleaning rags, but the results were worth it! I would recommend wearing gloves as it is petroleum based and is hard to get off your hands. I also recommend testing a small spot before hitting an entire project - there is very fine grit in the product and may scratch a softer metal or remove any clear coat finish.
