Sera siporax Professional for use in both freshwater and marine aquariums as well as in ponds. It maximizes the surface required for biological purification and provides the optimal substrate for the settling of necessary filter bacteria. Filter and breakdown processes in the bottom ground of natural waters are very important. Organic waste are processed by micro-organisms and are thus available for the natural cycle as a nutrient for aquatic plants – pollutants such as ammonium, nitrite and nitrate are removed. Since little waste per water amount is formed in nature, the present bottom surface is sufficient for housing a sufficient number of micro-organisms. However, an aquarium accommodates a small biotope in little space. Sera perfectly put this into practice with the unique high performance filter medium Sera siporax. Sera siporax consists of sintered glass with a special three-dimensional pore structure for maximum surface increase. At the same time, the fine pores provide ideal settling conditions for bacteria that break down pollutants.

Good product
Got it for less than half the price on Amazon warehouse! That was a steal. Looks like a good quality product, rinsed it off and dropped the media into the filter along with the nylon mesh bag it came in. Not much debris. I have this media along with seachem matrix in my canister filter and nitrate levels are near zero, water crystal clear. Fish all look happy. Highly recommend.

The single best bio media on the market.
The open cell structure gives much higher surface area than competing ceramic rings. Similar design to BioHome ultimate in that it's open cell, sintered glass. But this one won't drop your filter output to near zero, as it lets water flow easily. This is the only bio media you'll ever need.

I've always used it. SO WHAT?
Came without the so-called bacterial booster. I don't think they claimed it is included, in this case. It came without one single ring crushed! Does it work? I've used this product for years and if sintered glass really is that efficient, then this is the best product. It doesn't seem to shed particles and deteriorate. I'm not convinced that this is better than 30 ppi foam or pot scrubbers, for that matter. Anything on the internet is hearsay, advertising and unscientific. In order to save space in your filter, you may stack the pieces rather than spreading randomly.

It works.
Excellent. I'm doing a fishless cycle with ammonia on a new tank. I wasted money on a couple of different brands of bacteria starter and none of them worked. I got the Siporax with the small bottle of starter included. I followed the instructions, adding the liquid directly to the Siporax media (it's pretty dusty from shipping, so I rinsed it first). The very next day I had nitrites on my test indicating the bacteria was starting to work. Now a week later, it looks like my cycle is almost finished! I don't know if the Siporax is really better than ceramic rings or whatever, but the Sera bio starter included definitely worked for me. I wish I could find it for sale separately.

Reduces my nitrate levels to Zero
Ok so I bought this a little over a year ago hoping to reduce nitrates in my tanks. I couldn't tell if it was working the first few months. I stopped testing and forgot about them after the 4th month. Now that it's been a year...this reduced my nitrate that comes out of the tap at over 10ppm to 0ppm in a day or two, depending on how large a water change I do. The bacteria needed for de-nitrification takes time so be patient and wait at least 6 months for it to establish.

Superb product
These are superb. I was having an ongoing problem with high nitrates and since I started using these (about 3 weeks now) I haven't had any problems. Highly recommend!

Hoping for the best; I am a new pond/fish keeper and learning ...
Arrived in a timely manner. My pond is 50 gallons so I am using 1 bag. I rinsed and put the mesh bag as instructed in a Tetra Pond Filtration Fountain Kit after I cleaned the filters and added the 5ml of sera bio nitrivec which was provided tonight 6/6/18. Hoping for the best; I am a new pond/fish keeper and learning as I go. This product was recommended so here I am. Thank you
