Home Depot has it for Twenty dollars more. Works Awesome!
Already had one but wanted another. Makes chasing wires and labeling cat6a cables a breeze. Plus 20 bucks cheaper than the local hardware store doesn't hurt.

Got the job done!
A previous homeowner had started some garage outlets and had already ran wire behind the walls, but I couldn't figure out where he ran them to since he didn't connect them to the electrical panel. This tool worked great to trace the wires behind drywall and allowed me to finish what he started. The $20 wire tracers were too cheap to get the job done and I didn't want to spend $100. This tool worked great.

Works great for tracing wires.
I bought this to trace some cat 6 wires I installed a few years ago and the labels fell of the wires so I wasn't sure what wires went where from the switch. I spent about 30 mins running around the house tracing each line and it worked on runs of over 100'. I also used it to trace a mystery wire in my RV. Only thing I'd like to see different is for it to have a female RJ-45 connector. For my male terminated cat 6 wires I had to use the alligator clips on one of the pins on the connector instead of just plugging the transmitter in. This is a useful tool though and I am glad I bought it.

Fox & Hound, sort of
I used to work in the IT industry and we had a professional tool that did the same thing this tool does. Of course the pro tool we had back then did a far superior job and cost over $300. I found the instructions for this device to be scant and next 2 points I mention should be in the instructions or be more clear. 1. As simple as it may sound make sure the big unit (the sender) is on. The switch on mine is somewhat faulty and at first I thought it was on but it turned out it was not. You will know the sender is on by looking at the front end at the white window. It will blink on and off ever second or so with a red light. 2. Be sure you have sensitivity switch on the sender turned way down. A good starting point is turn the wheel all the way to min and then roll it back about a 1/4 of a turn. You should find this setting to work well for Ethernet cable work. Another good bit of advice when trying to ID a target Ethernet cable is to run the tool for about 6" in length along the outside of cables. When you get a tone and some light activity then place the receiver tip on end of the target cable. If you move it around so it can contact the 8 conductors you should hit a wire or two that really lights up and sounds off strongly. This is your verification you indeed have the right wire. As for the tool itself you get what you pay for. For this price it works and saved me a lot of time. I would recommend this to others. The build quality is so, so. I will be sending mine back and getting another one as the prior mentioned switch is just too finicky about staying on. Lastly, the sending unit takes normal batteries and that is acceptable. However the receiver takes 4 pancake style batteries and they are sometimes hard to find in stores and generally pretty expensive. Here's to hoping they last a while. P

Intermittent Functionality
This device is very handy and it works well most of the time. However, sometimes it just does not turn on. Nothing. Take the batteries out, put them back in, and it works. This happens far too frequently. By the way, this thing has the worst battery compartment door every. It is very difficult to remove - I had to use a knife, even then it took a while.

Battery defective
Product arrived with a defective LR44 Battery. In the attached photo you can see that the 3rd battery is bulging.

Arrived with dead batteries
Right out of the package, the no-name AAA's were deader than a doornail. I nearly returned the item, thinking it was defective, then I thought to test the batteries. Absolutely flat. Other than that, the tone from the detector is very faint. On a noisy job site, it could be a problem trying to hear it.

Excelente relación precio/ prestaciones.
Los cables de conexión deberían ser más largos.

Good wire tracer tool
I recently moved into a new house and it's strewn with unlabeled cabling of all types: telephone, data, cable tv. After trying to trace things by hand I got fed up and bought this to assist and I wish I'd bought one a long time ago. It's a nice design and keeps everything together. Batteries are included but the probe takes 3 LR44 watch cell batteries which are annoying. The tone generator takes 2 AAA. Theres some rubber grippy material on both units and the tone generator has a plastic belt clip moulded into the back of its case. The probe fits into the tone generator for easy storage but it is tight a tight fit and can be hard to remove. The tone generator has less for Coax cable (RJ 6), 2 pair phone mod plug, 4 pair RJ-45 ethernet mod plus, a pair of alligator clips, and a small blade probe. They are stored inside the rear flip-up case which is nice except the bending of the cables without strain relief looks like an obvious point of failure. The probe has adjustable volume (it's loud!) and a light for visual indication. The tone generator has an indicator light when it's on and an auto-off power feature. It made quick work of tracing the snakes den of cables up to 100 feet with no problems. Overall very happy but I would caution that along with the lack of strain relief the overall durability of the unit seems dubious: this is not a contractor tool and I think a single drop to the floor or worse, off of a step ladder would be curtains for this device, especially for the tone generator box which seems like an unforgiving plastic. But for the price it did exactly what was expected and worked well.

The unit I received does not work
Unit arrived with flat batteries (or was faulty). Installed new batteries in both transmitter and receiver, and connected transmitter to a test short length of NMD14 wire - transmitter light came on, but receiver only showed red light when turned to max and actually touching bare test wire - and buzzer was inaudible even on max setting. Auto off did not work - finally had to take out transmitter batteries after over 2 hours! Auto off is fine as back-up, but it should be possible to turn the unit off by pressing the switch a second time! Very disappointed for this product from Sperry. I will return this as faulty, and will see if next one works - or will have to look elsewhere.

Works great
Whatever non-current carrying cables you are trying to trace behind walls, this little gadget will work. It literally took me 20 mins or less to find 3 unmarked speaker wires behind a wall that the previous owner had installed but never used. Low cost, no brainer. Get it unless you like patching up drywall.

Worked Perfectly
This thing is great. I had a partial break in an ethernet wire behind drywall (somewhere) and used the tracker to find the cable route. Saved a great deal of time (and drywall damage) cutting holes in the drywall just to find the cable route

Found all my missing connections in the garage and the house!
This unit performed very well, I got tone from 60 ft away which allowed me to find the missing connections on several dead plugs in the garage and on the exterior of my house. Very pleased!
